Mattie Mae Scales, 85, of Madison, NC passed August 4, 2022. A public viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Perry- Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2022, in the Moore Family Cemetery, Madison, NC.

Mattie Mae Scales was born in Rockingham County on January 4, 1937, to the late Jack and Thelma Scales. She departed this life on August 4, 2022, at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, NC.

Mattie attended school at the former Madison Charles Drew Colored School where she was active in keeping the school a part of history in the community. She retired from Burlington Industry, Madison, NC after many years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by three sisters: Johnita Scales, Peggy Dalton and Alma Joyner.

She leaves to cherish her memories: four children; Althea Smith (Danny), Carlton Scales, Willie Scales and Danny Scales (Shelby), two sisters; Irene Scales and Jackie Cardwell (John), three grandchildren; Christina Scales, Ashley Smith and Danielle Scales, one great grandchild; Zarihanna Leak and a host of other family member and friends.
