Obituary For Essie Butler Horn

Ms. Essie Butler Horn, 67, of Columbus, GA passed Wednesday, August 10, 2022 in Columbus, GA.

Funeral service will be 12 noon EST, Friday, August 19, 2022 at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL with Pastor Noble D. Williams, officiating. Interment to follow in Green Acres Cemetery, Columbus, GA. Visitation is Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 2-5 p.m. EST.

Ms. Essie Butler Horn of Columbus, GA was born May 4, 1955 in Russell County, AL to Ben Butler, Jr. and Annie W. Butler.

Essie gave her life to Christ at an early age at Shady Grove Baptist Church. She attended New Testament Baptist Church, but later joined Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served as a faithful member of the Hospitality and Women’s Ministry. Essie received her formal education at Jordan Vocational High School. She furthered her education at Columbus Technical College where she received her Associate Degree in Business in 1974.

On April 30, 1976 Essie was united in Holy Matrimony to Ricky Horn in Columbus, GA.

Essie began her employment with Blue Cross Blue Shield for 10 years and later was employed with AFLAC for 16 years where she retired in 2017. During her retirement she enjoyed cooking, baking and nurturing her many flourishing plants. Most importantly she dedicated her life to the care of her beloved mother, Annie W. Butler.

She is preceded in death by her father, Ben Butler, Jr.

Essie leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Annie W. Butler of Columbus, GA; two dedicated brothers, Tommy Butler (Adriene) of Phenix City, AL and Willie Butler (Patricia) of Columbus, GA; loving sister, Ann Reeves (David) of Roberta, GA; a nephew she adored as a son, Roderick Jones (Valencia) of Tyrone, GA; a niece she adored as a daughter, Katrina Hill (Bradley) of Hallandale Beach, FL; three nieces; seven nephews; a devoted friend, Randy Carswell of Columbus, GA and a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly.
