Funeral services will be Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., Cade Chapel M.B. Church, 1000 W. Ridgeway Street, Jackson, MS 39213 with burial in Autumn Woods Cemetery, 4000 W. Northside Drive, Jackson, MS 39209.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course; I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up a crown for my righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. ~ 2 Timothy : 7-8 Mother Luberta Lousie Howard Mixon was born April 17, 1927, in Jackson, Mississippi to Frank and Beatrice Howard, who proceeded her in death. Mother Mixon attended Smith Robinson Elementary School, Lanier Junior/Senior High School (833), graduating June of 1946. Mother Mixon did not receive a college degree; however, she earned her B.A. (Born Again) degree from her belief in the Holy Trinity. Mother Mixon, as a young child, confessed Christ as her Savior and was united with Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Later in life, Mother Mixon and her family moved from West Jackson and united with Cade Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. J.D. Hayden. Mother Mixon faithfully attended Sunday School, Bible Study, Revivals and other church programs and activities. As Mother Mixon grew in the Lord, she became a follower and a leader at Cade Chapel. She was very active in the church where she served in the following ministries: Assistant Superintendent of the Children’s Department, Youth Usher Board Assistant, Women’s Sunday School Class, President of the Angelic Choir, Cantata Choir, Mother’s Ministry, and Missionary Society for many years. She actively participated within her church, local and congress educational classes. Mother Mixon was chosen and honored as “This is Your Life Recipient” for devoted service at Cade Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Mother Mixon married the love of her life, Brother Dorsey Mixon, who proceeded her in death on January 13, 2022. On January 8, 2022, these love birds celebrated 75 blessed years of marriage. To this union, three daughters were born Betty, Jean and Odessa. Mother Mixon worked at Jackson Steam Laundry and decided that it was not for her. She began taking night classes and studying to become a nurse. After successful completion, Mother Mixon secured a job as a licensed practical nurse with Baptist Medical Associates. She worked in the same family clinic for 45 years. On August 11, 2022, Mother Mixon’s earthly journey ended, as she was called to glory to be one of God’s angels in heaven. Mother Mixon, a loving and devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and greatgreat grandmother, leaves to cherish her memories with her daughters, family, and her extended family at Cade Chapel Church Missionary Baptist Church. Mother Mixon’s sweet smile will continue to shine down on all who knew and loved her. Madea may be gone from our sight, but she will always remain in our hearts.
