Obituary For Franklin David “FD” Broadnax

Mr. Franklin David “FD” Broadnax, 72, of Reidsville, NC died August 19, 2022. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday August 25, 2022 at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Eden, NC. The family will receive friends at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 420 Mizpah Church Road, Reidsville, NC from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 26, 2022 with the funeral service begining at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

On August 19, 2022, Franklin David (F.D.) Broadnax transitioned to life eternal from Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. F.D. was the sone of the late Rev. Lewis Broadnax and Shirley Brown Broadnax.

F.D. was a 1968 graduate of James Motley Morehead High School in Eden, NC. He attended NC A&T State University and later earned his Bachelor of Science from Shaw University in 1993. While attending NC A&T he became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. A Prolific scholar and avid mathematician, in 1995 F.D. earned his Master of Science degree in Accounting at UNC-Greensboro.

In 1975 he married the love of his life, the former Emma Motley and to their union was born their only child, Aisha.

Spiritually, he accepted the love of Jesus Christ at an early age and united in Christian Fellowship at Morning Star Baptist Church, Eden, NC. He later transferred his Christian fellowship to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He supported the church faithfully and pursued one of his many passions which was music by becoming a member of the WC Male Chorus.

Prefoessionally, F.D. was a retired Supervisor with the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring 2015, he served as the NAPS Greensboro Branch 157 President and the Carolina Bi-State Area Vice President (Piedmont-Triad Area Branch 936). He was a tireless advocate of postal workers and was committed to the fulfillment of due process and appeals for workers. Additionally, he possessed an entrepreneurial spirit. He owned and operated a Beauty Supply Company from 1985-1992 named Aisha's Beauty Supply after his "May Flower", daughter, Aisha. He also served as faculty at Shaw University Cape Center, High Point, NC. F.D. was an avid sportsman. His favorite teams included the UNC Tarheels, NC A&T Aggies, the Carolina Panthers and the LA Lakers. His favorite athlete was Tiger Woods. But most of all he delighted in the game of golf. F.D. was a staple at numerous golf tournaments and most of the time brought home winning trophies. One of his fulfilled desired was to attend the Masters' Golf Tournament in August, GA which he accomplished in 2011. His dream was to attend the British Open and had secured his passport in 2019. He loved the game of golf so much that up until his health declined was a faithful volunteer for the Wyndlham Championship in Greensboro, NC.

Above all, F. D. was a family man. He took joy in times spent at Family Reunions, holiday gatherings and weddings. His greatest joy was any time spent with immediate family. He delighted in time spent with his grandchildren and spoiled them accordingly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Marjorie Broadnax, Riviera Broadnax Frasier, Mary Louise Brown, brother-in-law, William R. Frasier, niece, Karen Brown, nephews, William R. Frasier and Rev. Barry Frasier.

Surviving as his devoted wife of 46 years, Emma Motley-Broadnax, beloved daughter; Khali Aisha Broadnax Gwynn and son-in-law, Kevin Gwynn, Sr., the lights of his life; Kevin, Jr. (Roc), Mariah Louise and Kenneth (Kenny) Lewis Gwynn, brother, Lewis Marvin Broadnax and sister-in-law, Grace Broadnax, nephews, Ronald V. (Kook) Frasier, Leroy L. Irby, Lewis Marvin Broadnax, III, niece, Carole Marshall; special relative, Tracey Pegues, a host of beloved cousins, relatives and friends.
