Obituary For Laura Young

Mrs. Laura Jean Johnson Young, 66, of Oakvale, Mississippi passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at The Grove, Columbia, Mississippi.

Mrs. Young is the daughter of the late Albert and Clay Lee Johnson. She was a member of Zion Community Church of God, Oakvale, Mississippi where she served in many capacities. She was president of Christian Women Connection; director of the Board of Christian Education and Sunday School teacher and served as secretary of NAACP, previously.

She was a retired teacher who loved shopping, organizing events, children, traveling, dining out and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Zion Community Church of God at 11am. Interment will be at Christ Temple Church of Christ Holiness, Oakvale, Mississippi.

She is survived by: daughter, Amya C. Stewart of Valdosta, GA; brothers, Albert Johnson, Jr. of McComb, MS; James T. Johnson of Carson, MS, Rev. Nathan Johnson of Monticello, MS; Wilbert Johnson of Clarksdale, MS; sister, Martha Carter of Oakvale, MS.

Visitation will be Monday, September 5, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home, 1-5pm and Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at the church, 10-11am.

To the Young and Johnson family, Laura and I were classmates since elementary school. She has always had a beautiful smile. She smiled all the time and she was very kind.
