Ms. Karlita Sherron Briner, 47, of Gary, IN passed Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in Gary, IN.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. EST, Thursday, September 8, 2022 in the C.T. Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Elder Yolanda Upshaw, officiating. Burial to follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Pittsview, AL. Visitation is Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 12 noon-1:00 p.m. EST.

Karlita Sherron Briner "Moonk" was born to Dorothy Cheatham and Joseph Upshaw, Jr. on January 18, 1975. In 1993, Karlita graduated from Lew Wallace High School. In 1995, Karlita graduated from Merrillville Beauty College. She was born with very gifted, anointed hands. She worked as a beautician and was known by all for her stylish, creative, unique hairstyles. She did her own hairstyles and she did hair for her children, mother, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, and friends.

She loved being a mother, reading, planting flowers, and giving gifts. She was also known for her strong faith, love and dedication to Christ, creative decorative skills, holiday creations, and taking no mess!

Karlita was preceded in death by her second daughter Holly Sherron Briner and her father, Joseph Upshaw, Jr.

Karlita is survived by six children, Be’Jan Gervais Edmonds (Be-Jam), Hiliary Mone Briner (Booger), Amonie Karletta Briner (Kip), Hollis Hiliary Briner, Jr. (Bucky), Jaylin Willie Briner (Lump Lump), and Caleb Jeremiah Briner (Kay Kay); mother, Dorothy Cheatham; one brother, Montressor Lamar Upshaw; two sisters, Jolonda McAllister and Cheryl Upshaw and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
