Obituary For Aaliyah Speights

Miss Aaliyah Shantae Speights, 25, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022.

She is the daughter of Mrs. Shirley Oatis and Mr. Edward Earl Speights. She was a member of Sweetwater Methodist Church, Bassfield, Mississippi. She graduated from Bassfield High School in 2015 where she was president of Beta Club, member of Bassfield High Band, JROTC, HOSA, Mu Alpha Theta and Pink Huddle. She later attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Southern Mississippi in 2020. She was also a member of the Glee Club.

Miss Speights served in the United States Air National Guard.

Miss Speights was an administrator at Emory University, Goizueta Business School. She loved reading, drawing and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Sweetwater Methodist Church at 11am. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by: parents, Edward Speights of Silver Creek, MS; Shirley Oatis and Maurice Oatis of Prentiss, MS; brothers, Clarence Daniels of Hirman, GA; Derek Speights and Demetrius Speights both of Prentiss, MS; sister, Erin Speights of Brookhaven, MS.

Visitation will be Friday, September 9, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home, 1-6pm; Saturday at the church, 10-11am.

Aaliyah loved blue and always sent blue heart emojis. She was my first college friend and she quickly became a best friend. She impacted my life for the better and took me into her family. She was loving, caring, selfless, and so funny. Her laugh was contagious. I remember the first time I saw her at our biology first year students seminar. She was singing and dancing making everyone smile and I knew then she was going to be my friend right then and there. A soul like that will forever live on.
