Obituary For Michael Eugene Rhodes

A celebration of life for Mr. Michael Eugene Rhodes, 71, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Terry's Mortuary Chapel. Reverend Vernon Acklin will deliver the eulogy. Interment will immediately follow the service in Westview Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Rhodes will be from 1-7 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022, at the funeral home.

On October 6, 1950, Michael Eugene Rhodes was born in Talladega, Alabama. He was a blessing to his father, Paul Porter, and his mother, Greta Fenton Acklin.

Mr. Rhodes made Lawrence Avenue Baptist Church his place of worship when he made Nashville, Tennessee his home after retirement. He was member of the 1968 graduating class of Westside High School. Michael continued his education at Nunnelly Community College. On April 8, 1970, Michael enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably until April 7, 1976. He continued his service to the military by establishing a career at the Anniston Army Depot in Anniston, Alabama until retirement. Michael was an avid sports fan, but if you knew him then you know that the Pittsburgh Steelers were at the top of his list. He also found joy in music, creating art and painting.

On the morning of September 7, 2022, Michael was reunited in eternity with his parents, Paul (Ella) Porter and Greta Acklin; his brother, Carl Acklin; and his grandparents, Ernest Rhodes and Taylor and Mae Frances Porter.

Michael is survived by his three sons, Kharl Rhodes, Michael Rhodes, Jr. and Wendell Rhodes of Nashville, Tennessee; one daughter, Sarina (Lindsey) Hall of Birmingham, Alabama; fifteen grandchildren, Kharlton, Ebonie, Brentson, Desiree, Jessica, Tyrone, Areonno, Michael, Jr., Moesha, Joi, Deondria, Jaden, Ashton, Trenton and Donnasia; ten great grandchildren; five sisters, Vanessa Rodgers and Verdia Evans of Talladega, Alabama, Vera Seay, Joyce Acklin and Yardra Faye Acklin of Nashville, Tennessee; four brothers, Phetis Porter of Talladega, Alabama, Patrick (Rachel) Porter of Birmingham, Alabama, Rodrick Porter of Claremont, Florida and Vernon (Paula) Acklin of Nashville, Tennessee; three uncles, Calvin Porter, Edward Porter and Leroy Porter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
