Mrs. Mary Lagretta Pagan James, known as “Miss Greta,” was born in Gaston County, North Carolina on March 4, 1947. She was the daughter of Wilma Pagan and the late Luther Barber. She answered God’s call on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the age of 61.

Greta was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

She was a 1980 graduate of Hunter Huss High School. While at Hunter Huss, Greta was a cheerleader and the 1980 Homecoming Queen. Through the years of her life, she worked at the City of Gastonia, Gaston County Schools, Stabulis, and Food Lion. Greta loved, loved, loved the “Beach” and enjoyed vacationing there with her husband and daughter. Another passion of hers was the love for the “Dallas Cowboys.”

She leaves to cherish loving memories to her husband: Anthony “Moose” James whom she had thirty-seven years of marriage and forty-two years of togetherness; her one daughter: Breonia Lagretta James; her mother: Wilma Olivia Pagan; her sister: Althea P. McKinney; her brother: Anthony F. Pagan all of Gastonia, North Carolina and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral: Tuesday; September 13, 2022 at St. Johns Baptist Church, Gastonia at 12:30

Visitation is one hour before the service at the church.

There will be no viewing the day before the service; viewing will only be at the church on Tuesday

Interment: Armstrong Cemetery, Gastonia
