Earline Alexander Jackson

Mrs. Earline Alexander Jackson, 98, of Chicago, IL formerly of Phenix City, AL passed Tuesday, September 13, 2022 in South Holland, IL.

Funeral service will be 12:00 noon EST, Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Mt. Mariah Baptist Church, Phenix City, AL with Rev. W.G. Perkins, pastor and Rev. Randy Alexander, officiating. Interment will follow in Community Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, September 26, 2022 from 1-5 p.m. EST.

Mrs. Earline A. Jackson was born on December 28, 1924 in Columbus, Georgia to the Rev. Boysie and the late Georgia Alexander to this union two children, Earlene and Thelma were born. Earline’s mother, Georgia, passed away when she was very young. After the death of her mother Georgia, her father married Clara Alexander and to this union, 6 children were born.

Earline married Marshall Jackson in 1961 and to this union two children were born Deborah and Gregory. Marshall preceded Earline in death on November 12, 1999.

Earline attended school at a young age at Mother Mary Mission in Phenix City, Alabama. She later received her high school diploma through the Community Economic Development Association Program (CEDA) in Chicago, IL, along with her dear friend and neighbor, of over 50 years, Marjorie Fields.

Earline initially entered the workforce in Chicago as a seamstress in the 1960’s. After receiving her diploma in 1969 she began working for the Chicago Public School System as a Teacher’s Aid. Her first school assignment was at Theodore Herzl Elementary School and she retired from Whitney M. Young Magnet High School at the age of 70, after 39 years, with the Board of Education.

Earline was always spiritual and grew up as a preacher’s kid (PK) in the family home of her father, Boysie Alexander, who was the Founder of Mt. Mariah Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL. Earline’s greatest joy was singing in the choir at Mt. Mariah throughout her young adulthood and traveling with the choir to sing at various engagements. In 1961, Earline became a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, IL where she was a faithful member. She enjoyed singing in the choir for many years and later became a member of the Mother’s Board. Earline was committed to her faith and tithed at both Mt. Mariah and Pilgrim Rest.

Earline had a passion for sewing and enjoyed making dresses for herself as well as for her daughter. She also enjoyed baking, due to her strong sweet tooth and would whip up a cake quickly if there was nothing sweet to eat in the kitchen.

Other than her parents and her husband she is preceded in death by siblings, Rev. Boysie Alexander, Jr., Rev. Willie Alexander, Sr., Mattie A. Smith, Margaret Hewell, Thelma A. Davis, Jesse Gary and Hattie M. Gary and one granddaughter, Naisha T. Jackson

She leaves to cherish her memories two children, Deborah and Gregory Jackson (Clarice) of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Doris Benison (Joe) and Curley Mae Royal of Phenix City, Alabama; two grandchildren, Gregory D. Jackson, Jr. and Alexander D. Buckles of Chicago, IL; two great grandchildren, Nova S. Buckles and Jackson A. Buckles of Chicago, IL; close nieces, Brenda Davis and Elise Harper (Calvin) of Columbus, GA; very special neighbor/friend, Marjorie Fields of Chicago, IL as well as a host of relatives and friends.
