Min. John Thomas Hopper aka “Bob” of Eden was called to his reward on September 13, 2022. Bob was born November 8, 1940, to Sophonia and John V. Hopper. He received his education from the Rockingham County Schools.
Bob met and married the lovely Jolene Broadnax, and from this union were born three healthy children: Paris Lynn, Raji Vanear, and Johnsie Yvette. He was a hard worker and provider. During his life, he had a variety of jobs, Fieldcrest Mills and Southern Bell Telephone Co. When he retired, he began contracting with janitorial services.
There was a call on his life, and he entered into ministry under the leadership of Dr. Rev. Lettie Cohen at the Gospel Light Holiness Church, Axton, Virginia. He served there until he was led to move his membership to Robinson Memorial United Holy Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Harold Royster and continued to serve at Robinson Memorial under the leadership of Rev. Derek King. No matter where he attended church, he was fully committed to working as unto the Lord.
Minister John Hopper loved family and enjoyed a good meal. He had a passion for gardening which was evident around his home. Minister Hopper is survived by two children, Raji Hopper of the home and Johnsie Parker (William) of Reidsville, NC. One granddaughter Sade Lowe, Reidsville, NC and one great granddaughter Shandalen King, Reidsville, NC. Three sisters, Mary Ann Galloway and Malinda Lowe, Madison, NC; Margaret Elaine Roberts, Eden, NC; Three sisters-in-law; Gail Thornton and Helen Thornton both of Charlotte, NC and Celia Broadnax, Eden, NC; one brother-in-law Charles Broadnax (Eden, NC); a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Minister Hopper was predeceased by his wife Jolene, his oldest daughter Paris and his parents.
