Mr. Calvin Derrell “Ratt” King was born on February 27, 1969 in Sylvester, Georgia to the late Willie James “Ted” King, Sr. and Betty Jean Williams King.
He was educated in the Worth County Public School System and graduated from Worth County High School in 1988. After graduation, Calvin furthered his education by attending Northeastern Oklahoma Junior College and attending Ft. Valley State College in Ft. Valley, Georgia. At Ft. Valley State College, Calvin earned his Bachelor’s Degree and his Master’s Degree in Education. Calvin came back home to Sylvester, Georgia, and began teaching in the Worth County School System for twenty years.
In high school, Calvin excelled in sports, especially football. He would always talk about the good times he had with his teammates, Benny Nelson, Kevin Proctor, Matthew Murray, and Walter Dupree, especially when the football team won the State Championship in 1987, under Coaches Milt Miller and Carror Wright.
Calvin loved math, especially Algebra. If you ever met and talked with him, he would always insert a math problem into the conversation. Not only were math and sports his passion, but Calvin also loved fishing, hunting and playing cards. Calvin loved to talk, no matter what the subject of the conversation was.
Our Loved One gave up this busy walk of life on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia. His father, Willie James King, Sr., preceded him in death.
Calvin leaves to cherish his memories his loving mother, Betty Jean Williams King of Sylvester, Georgia; sisters, Barbara (Cornell) Green of Red Rock, Georgia, Wonna King, Marilyn Owens, both of Sylvester, Georgia; brothers, Willie James King, Jr., Hera Lee King, Charlie (Rewanna) King, Demetric King, Floyzell Johnson (Sabrina), Jr., all of Sylvester, Georgia; uncle, Shebbie Lee (Williams), Sr. of Sylvester, Georgia; aunts, Geneva Williams, Dorothy Williams, both of Sylvester, Georgia; a special niece that Calvin would sneak and give candy to, Nori; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
