Radiant Shipp

Radiant Nixon Shipp was born on September 9, 1944 in Denver, North Carolina to the late Fred and Bessie Hill Nixon. On September 16, 2022, she peacefully departed this life at Atrium Health (CMC Main) in Charlotte, NC. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Shipp, her two brothers, Fred Nixon, Jr., and James Melvin Niixon (AKA Bigshot), and her sister, Betty Nixon Rhinehardt.

Radiant was an active member of Tucker's Grove United Methodist Church. She graduated from Newbold High School, class of 1962. She attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC and graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She furthered her education at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and received her Master's Degree in Education and became a certified Reading Specialist.

A loving nature, a heart of gold, and the very best this world could hold. She loved dressing up and looking her best. Even in pain, she still dressed and always believed in matching from head to toe including her shoes and purses. Never selfish and always kind was her mantra. These are the memories she leaves behind. Radiant is survived by her daughter Rheamia Nixon Burns (Derek) of Murrieta, California; her granddaughter Samaria Burns; her grandson, Ensign Winston Burns of Norfolk, Virginia and a son-in-law Derek Burns currently stationed in Tokyo, Japan; two sisters, Gracie Nixon Barnes (Rayford) of Gastonia, NC; Dr. Linda Nixon Hudson (Randy) of Charlotte, NC; and one brother Calvin Nixon (Vada) of Newton, NC; sisters-in-law, Linda S. Nixon and Florence Nixon, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Special thanks to her ex-husband/caretaker, Herbert Payne of Charlotte, NC. Funeral Service will be Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Tucker's Grove United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. There will be a public walk through on Friday, September 23, 2022 at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
