Obituary For William "Bill" Frierson

William “Bill” Edward Frierson was born December 31, 1935, to the late Ed Frierson and Annie Mae Jones Frierson in Columbia, Tennessee. “Sonny,” as his family calls him, was the first son and second eldest of what would become five children. He attended Carver Smith High School and went on to enlist in the United States Marines Corps. He was deployed to Korea as a member of the 1st Marine Division.

After completing his military service, Bill began working as a machine operator for DuPont in Columbia, TN. Right before transferring to the Parkersburg, West Virginia location, he met Viola and her three daughters, Robyn, Dana, and Kisha. Following a quick courtship, they married, and Bill quickly legally adopted her daughters. Within the next year, the family was made complete with the birth of a fourth daughter, Stacie. Bill worked for DuPont until his retirement, over 33 years.

Bill never stopped seeking to understand God and God’s will for his life. He loyally attended Logan United Methodist Church and The Rock Family Worship Center while in Parkersburg. After relocating to Sebastian, Florida in 2015, he continued to worship and deepen his faith at Coastal Community Church.

Bill was known for his industriousness, kindness, integrity, and quick wit. He was a maker and a creative: an exceptional self-taught carpenter, woodworker, and artist. When he was not creating something, you could find him reading, easily solving the most challenging crossword puzzles, or planting beautiful things in the yard.

Bill leaves behind his wife, Viola; four daughters, Robyn (Randy) Bethel, Dana (Alonzo) Mayfield, Takisha Frierson, and Stacie Frierson; and six grandchildren (Torri, Melvin, Patrick, Wendell, Xavier, and Nadya). He will also be cherished in memory by his two sisters, Carrie Galloway and Sarah Frierson; brother, Benjamin (LaVeta) Frierson; two devoted nieces, Juanita Pierce and Terri Frierson; devoted great-nephew, Steve (Sherry) Galloway; and devoted great-niece, Gwen (Noel) Wright, all of Columbia, TN, along with a host of great-nephews, great-nieces, and friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Lee Roy Frierson.

Public visitation for William "Bill" Frierson will take place on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 10:00am-11:00am which will be follows by his funeral service which will begin promptly at 11:00am. Both visitation and funeral services will convene at Coastal Community Church in Sebastian, FL.
