Obituary For Deaconess Rosie Lee Cook Hicks

Rosie L. Cook Hicks was born March 29, 1947 to the late Nathaniel Whitfield and Katie Lewis in Fort Pierce, Florida. She attended Means Court School and Lincoln Park Academy.

She was a caregiver to many including the late Mrs. Cleo Leath and Mrs. Annie Duncan. She was also a babysitter to many children throughout Saint Lucie County.

At an early age, she joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized by Rev. W.H. White. Later she moved her membership to Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Charlie Byrd. She served under the leadership of Rev. Major Highman, Rev. W.M. Shelton, and now the present pastor, Rev. Eldrew Baldwin, Jr. She served faithfully until her health started to fail her. She was a member of the Sunday School Ministry, Choir #2, The Gospel Choir, Nurse’s Guild Ministry, Deaconess Ministry, teacher for Vacation Bible School at First Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She was a past member of the Heroines of Jericho, Saint James Court #330.

On Friday, September 23, 2022, Rosie transitioned to be with her Heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her husband: Deacon Charles Hicks; brothers: Birdis Smith, Jr. and Bernard Smith; sister-in-law: Linda Hooper; several aunts and uncles.

Left to cherish her memories are her sons: Leonardo(Gwen)Cook, Keevin Hicks, Derek(Jacinta)Hicks, Al(Nicole)Smith; mother/father: Katie & Eric Lewis of Fort Pierce; sister: Dorothy(Johnny)Shield of Port Saint Lucie; sisters-in-law: Patricia Smith and Doreatha Colter; brother: Curtis(Becky)Robinson and Dwayne Whitfield; special cousin: Ernestine Comer; special nephew: Theo Shield; grandchildren: Tyeshia Cook, Danielle Potts, Kahmyrah Green, Michael James; great grandchildren: Dakari Marshall, Journee Potts, Za’Riayah Potts; goddaughter: Tangela Dunbar; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Public visitation for Rosie Lee Cook Hicks will take place on Friday, September 30, 2022 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at First Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral services will convene on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at First Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Although many venues have opened and the restrictions of COVID-19 have been relaxed, we at Stone Brothers Funeral Homes are still enforcing the guidelines set forth by the CDC and FDOH to protect our families and our staff.
