Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. EST, Saturday, October 15, 2022 at St. John A.M.E. Church, Ft. Mitchell, AL with Rev. Samuel Smith, pastor, officiating; Presiding Elder, Johnny Rutledge, eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is Friday, October 14, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. EST.

A Time To Be Born… Lizzie Mae Lewis was born August 31, 1936 in Russell County, Alabama to the late Ed and the late Laura Hunter Lewis. She enjoyed a close and loving family life with her eight siblings.
A Time to Seek…She sought a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, receiving Him at an early age. As a result, she joined the St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fort Mitchell, Alabama where she remained the duration of her life. She diligently served as a willing worker, assistant Sunday School superintendent/teacher, Missionary and Trustee.
A Time to Build… Lizzie attended Mother Mary Catholic School. She completed her undergraduate studies at Troy University where she received a Bachelor’s degree and completed additional studies.
She was employed as a librarian at Saint Joseph and a middle school Social Studies teacher at Mother Mary School. Throughout her career, she received numerous awards including Teacher of the Year. She enjoyed helping youth develop and reach their full potential.
A Time to Die… On October 7, 2022, God saw his servant getting weary, He whispered in her ear and she heard the Master’s call in Tallahassee, Florida surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Laura Hunter Lewis; five of her siblings Eddie Lee Smith, James “Tank” Lewis, Matthew “Sonny” Lewis, Maggie Chambers, George “Noon” Lewis and a beloved niece, Elease Lewis.
A Time to Love… Lizzie loved and cherished her family, being affectionately known as “Ms. Lewis”. She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter, Yvette Tellis; loving, son-in-law Kenneth Tellis; twin grandchildren, James and Kristen Tellis; siblings, Minnie Rutledge, Juanita James, Mattie Ford and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who meant so much to her.
