In the midst of all this death and darkness, Jesus brings life and light, where there is death, he resurrects. He replaces our ashes with beauty and our mourning with gladness. In a dying world, Jesus brings life. To God Be the Glory.
MR. JANOSKO WILLIE SKIPWITH, affectionately called, ”Butch” or “Skip,” departed this life on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Envoy Nursing Home in Lawrenceville, VA. He was born June 25, 1949 to Gladys Skipwith of South Hill, VA.
At an early age he joined Temple Gate RZUA Church. He received his formal education through the Mecklenburg County Public School System and graduated from East End High School in 1967. It was there that he met the love of his life, Bernice Phillips. They dated from the 10th grade until graduation and they married a year later in 1968. To this union two children were born- Andrea and Janon.
Butch was employed at General Motors Auto Industry in Linden, NJ for many years where he became one of only a few black supervisors.
Butch attended Clearview Baptist Church, Newark, NJ where he served faithfully on the Usher Board. His community involvements included being a 33rd Degree Mason as well as a Worshipful Master of his lodge.
Butch was a compassionate kind hearted person who never met a stranger that he would not help. He never hesitated to share his fun loving spirit and his love for music with all those around him. He was a hard-working man who loved his family.
Butch leaves to cherish his memory his two children- Andrea Skipwith Amaker, Newark, NJ and Janon (Selena) Skipwith, Charlotte, NC; his loving mother- Gladys Skipwith and his loving sister- Odessa Skipwith, both of Norfolk, VA; four grandchildren- Bryanna Amaker, Donnell Amaker Jr., Ramir Skipwith, and Janai Skipwith ; one great-grandson, Khalil Amaker; two nephews- Demtrius Skipwith and Dante Davis; a niece- Danielle Davis; special friend- Johnson “Smitty” Smith, and a host of other relatives and friends.
