Charlene Perkins Doyle was born July 23, 1960, in Axton, Virginia to the late Milton Perkins and the late Mollie Hampton Martin Perkins. She departed this life Wednesday, October 12, 2022, in Roanoke, Virginia.
Charlene attended elementary school in Henry County. After the family moved to Pittsylvania County she attended Tunstall High School in Dry Fork, Virginia. She was baptized at an early age at Star of Bethlehem Way of the Cross, Cascade, VA by the late Apostle Richard W. Adams. There she enjoyed Sunday School, singing in the choir and other church activities. Later she would move her membership to Shiloh Way of the Cross Church in Martinsville, VA, where she was enjoying fellowship there, with the saints for a time. In recent years she could be found back at her home church, Star of Bethlehem. Charlene loved the Lord and church was never far from her heart. She loved visiting other churches, meeting new people and uniting with any family she found there. At any given time, someone would come up to a family member and say “Charlene was at my church Sunday”. Church and praising God was a huge part of who she was.
She worked briefly at various establishments, however her greatest passion was domestic work and being the perfect homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and caring for the elderly. Charlene also loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandkids.
Charlene was also preceded in death by five brothers, Allin Martin, Willie Martin, Bobby Martin, Tonnie Perkins, Earnest Perkins and one sister, Susie Perkins Hairston.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters; Alicia Barriga (Marco) of Danville, VA, and Jasmine Perkins (Joshua) of Martinsville, VA, two sisters; Mamie Paden of Detroit, MI and Chanie Wilkerson (Donald) of Cascade, VA, one brother; Milton Perkins of Waverly, VA. Five grandchildren, Yasmine, Marco, Katie, Alexander, and Maddie, a special friend, Lacy Olverson and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
