Dr. Patricia Ann Harris was born on September 4, 1960, in Barnesville, Lamar County, GA to the late Jerome Harris, Jr. and Lessie Jean Prater Harris. At a very young age, she joined the Orange Grove Baptist Church. She then later joined the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Alfred Davis. She loved attending church and often reflected on how she always looked forward to her Uncle James picking all the kids up and taking them to Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. On several occasions, she stated that she loved Sunday School because this is where she got her foundation and understanding of Christ. She realized she had a talent of singing. She had an amazing voice and joined the Junior Choir at Pine Grove under the direction of Charles Davis. She was always asked to sing on different programs and at special events. A couple of songs that were always requested were, “Precious Lord” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” She joined A Place of Refuge, Thomaston, GA under the leadership of Pastor Curtis L. Jackson, Sr. It was there that she accepted her call into the ministry. She was ordained and licensed as a Minister of the Gospel in 2003. After leaving Yatesville, she joined St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church in East Point, GA. She later joined the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church under the late Bishop Eddie Long, where she voluntarily wrote a Marketing Study on Mission Work in Africa. That Marketing Study was valued at over $10,000. She later joined the Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Johnny Beasley, where she preached, taught Bible Study, and performed mission work until her health failed. She loved GOD and his people. She was not the minister that had to be up front. She worked diligently behind the scenes when nobody was looking and never sought after accolades. She loved going to the nursing home to preach to the residents that could not get out to church. She just wanted to serve. She was educated in the Upson County School System. She graduated from Upson High School in 1978. After graduating from high school, she enrolled in Gordon College in Barnesville, GA, where she received an Associate’s degree in 1981. Afterwards, she knew there was more to learn and decided to continue her education at Georgia State University. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1985. Education was always her passion. She had a love of learning and never wanted to stop learning and reaching for higher heights. In 1997, she earned a Master’s in Business Administration from the Keller Graduate School of Management. In 2007, she was the Keynote Graduation Speaker at Samaritan University. In 2009, she enrolled at Capella University where she studied and went on to earn her Ph.D. in Organization Management and Leadership in 2011 after successfully defending and publishing her dissertation. Patricia also taught several courses as a College Professor. She worked for many years for Southern Company, a division of Georgia Power. After retirement, Patricia spent many years advocating for voter’s rights and making sure people not only registered to vote but actually went to the polls and cast their vote. She often said, “If you don’t vote, then don’t complain.” Patricia was funny, loving, outgoing, and had an infectious smile. She loved music and enjoyed cooking and travelling. She loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings during the holidays. She was preceded in death by her father, Jerome Harris, Jr.; and two brothers, Larry Harris and Tracy Harris. On Monday, October 17, 2022, Patricia Harris departed this life. She leaves to mourn her passing her mother, Mrs. Lessie Jean Harris of Yatesville, GA; one brother, Deacon Rick (Beverly) Harris of Stone Mountain, GA; three sisters, Ms. Debbie Lewis of Thomaston, GA, Mrs. Shelia Lewis (Robert) Ivey of Hampton, GA, and Ms. Shannon (Deandre) Mignott of Yatesville, GA; aunts and uncles, Mrs. Annie C. Farley of Atlanta, GA, an aunt who was more like her second mother, Deacon James (Gladys) Prater of Yatesville, GA, Mr. Alphonia (Christine) Prater of Decatur, GA, Ms. Pat Harris of Conyers, GA, Ms. Katie Harris and Mr. John Thomas Harris, both of Douglasville, GA; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She loved her dear friends of many years and always talked about Rhonda Reed Russell, Nellie Mitchell, Wanda Benjamin, Faye McCommon, and Nadine Walker. She also wanted to thank her devoted neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Ford. She also loved her beloved pet, Prince, that brought so much joy and love to her life.

Dr. Pat, I just found out about your transition on today and I am saddened. I was so blessed to have met you in grad school while we were both working on our doctoral degrees. You always provided an encouraging word and you loved the Lord. I'm glad we were able to reconnect a few years ago. I know you are rejoicing in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Until we meet again my friend, take your rest. May God continue to comfort and bless the family of Dr. Pat Harris!

To my loving Bestie, I miss you.... I know that's what everyone says at a time like this, but I don't know what else to say. When I say, "I miss you," I mean I miss everything about you. I miss your hearty laugh(which was infectious), especially when we would laugh for 10 minutes straight about something that only you and I thought was hilarious. I miss your wise words because you always knew exactly what to say when I needed your help or words of encouragement. I'll miss the songstress that sang at my daughters wedding. I miss your hugs, whether they were for a happy reason or a sad one, hugs always made everything better. I miss your selflessness, always willing to drop everything in your life to help someone who was important to you. Your devote obedience and Love for the Lord allowed you to be one of my closest prayer warriors. I think most of all I want you to know how much you meant to me. I don't know if I said it enough during our friendship, but I really hope you knew that. You helped me through so many issues in my life and I am forever grateful for that. I truly hope that everyone can be blessed by having a loving friendship like you and I shared. We have been friends for so long that I can only remember the day I met you at Georgia Power and since then have remained a permanent fixture in my heart...so to my sister I say, we shall meet again and behold him, for Jesus is the reason for every season.
