Willie Alonzo Jones was born on August 13, 1957, in Prince Edward County, Virginia, to Mace Jones and the late Willie C. Jones. Willie departed this life on October 10, 2022, at Methodist North Hospital Memphis, Tennessee. Willie was also affectionately known by his family as “Lonzo” or “Alonzo”.

Willie attended Amelia County High School in Amelia, VA, graduating June 1976. He was a member of the marching band and the football team. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he advanced to the rank of Corporal, and received several letters of appreciation. He earned a Sharp Shooter M-16 and Drivers badge. He also served in the Army National Guard, earning a rank of E-2.

Following his passion for driving trucks, he was an owner operator truck driver, driving over-the-road for 20+ years. He was a natural-born artist and could draw from memory. Willie enjoyed cooking -- especially preparing dishes such as ox tail, lamb, rice, and vegetables.

Before moving to Memphis, Tennessee, Willie lived in Portland, Maine, where he attended Port City Baptist Church. He was a faithful and praying man - he trusted in God for guidance. He loved his family and friends and would speak on the phone with them often. He never met a stranger he could not strike up a conversation with. He loved to joke and had a hilarious laugh and a beautiful smile.

Willie leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Nancy of Memphis, TN; daughter Anjelica Jones of Richmond, VA; mother Mace Jones of Farmville, VA; stepdaughters Danielle Davis (Melvin), Symone Dennis, Destiny Dennis, play son Deonte Wells all of Memphis, TN; sisters Pamela Jones of Jetersville, VA and Janet Temple (James Sr) of Capital Heights, MD; two sisters-in-law Shelia Martin (David) of Reno, NV and Donna Clayton of Tacoma, WA; one brother-in-law Kelvin Dennis of Memphis, TN; nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
