Obituary For Shirley Elizabeth Minns

DEACONESS SHIRLEY ELIZABETH MINNS - Age 75, of Canton, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. She was born on May 26, 1947, in Chesapeake, Virginia. After twenty-four years of being a resident of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, Mrs. Minns relocated to Canton, Georgia to be closer to her granddaughter.

Deaconess Minns had a passion for people and a gift to motivate others through her unique sense of humor. She established the Matron & Junior Usher Board and wrote and directed many plays at Liberty Baptist Church of Dalton, Georgia. She had a passion to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. She created her own ministry called “The Card Ministry” where she sent cards for all occasions that began at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Lafayette, Georgia where she was a faithful member up until her illness.

Her hobbies included: watching and writing plays, reading books, reciting poems, listening, and dancing to music, attending musical concerts, and being an Avon consultant where she was fondly known as the “Avon Lady.” She also enjoyed eating and fellowshipping with her family and friends.

Deaconess Minns lived by two significant mantras. One, “Everything must be done in decently and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40). If she felt that it was not in order, she would kindly correct you in her sassy way. Two, “when people are kind, you should be thankful because they don’t have to be kind to you.”

Upon her arrival to her heavenly home, Deaconess Shirley Elizabeth Minns (Cake) was greeted by her husband of forty-eight blissful years, Deacon Charles Randolph Minns (Honey) and her son, Deacon Gregory A. Minns. Those who will never forget the precious moments of her strong and impactful legacy left to them are: her son, Mr. Andre (LaShana) Minns; daughter, Ms. Coretta (CoCo) Jefferson; daughter-in-law, Ms. Addie Minns; grandchildren, Gregory M. Minns, Khristopher S. (Samantha) Minns, Ciara (CiCe) Jefferson, Isaiah R. Minns, Matthew C. Minns; sister-in-law, Harlene Greene; brother-in-law Deacon Lloyd Mennes; and a host, of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Homegoing Celebration will be Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 1:00 P. M. at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Rhuebin M. Taylor, Eulogist and Rev. William Q. Watkins, Presider. Her remains will lie in state at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 A. M. until the funeral hour. Interment, United Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Willis Funeral Home.

My condolences to the family of Mrs. Shirley Minns. Shirley has been my friend from the mid-sixties when her family made their home in Charles City, VA. and after they relocated to Georgia. Although separated by distance, we kept in touch by email, cards, and phone calls until just a few years ago when illness and other life events made it more difficult to correspond. I will always have fond memories of Shirley and the time we spent together. To the family: May God grant you peace even in the midst of your sorrow.
