Obituary For Dr. Fred Edward Gillenwater

Dr. Fred Edward Gillenwater, 83, of Louisville, KY passed away on October 27, 2022, at Hillcreek Nursing Home in Louisville.

Dr. Gillenwater was a native of Glasgow, KY and the son of the late Dennis and Odessa Gillenwater. Dr. Gillenwater was the former Pastor of Spillman CME Church in Allensville, KY, as well as, an alumnus of the University of Louisville and graduate of Simmons University where he later served on the Board of Trustees; an honorary member of the University of Louisville Alumni Club. He was Parlimentarian of the General Association of Baptists in Kentucky for a number of years. He was a member of First Gethsemane Baptist Church in Louisville. He was the former owner of Gilley's A-Lite Electric and Construction Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Kelly.

He is survived by one son, Andrew Michael Eddings of Nashville, TN; one daughter, Mona Lightsy (J. Sheldon) of Louisville, KY; two brothers, Jack and Delanie Gillenwater both of Louisville, KY; one sister, Sara Gillenwater Payton (Archie) of Louisville, KY; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren along with a host of family and friends.

Funeral service is 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at First Gethsemane Baptist Church in Louisville, KY with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Dr. Michael Rice is the officiant.

Burial with military honors will take place at 12:30 pm on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, KY.
