She was born in Georgetown, Guyana, daughter of the late Angus St. George McKinnon and the late Hilda Agatha (Chapman) McKinnon.
Elaine grew up in Guyana and received her formal education in St. George’s Primary and Secondary Schools. Having a desire to further her education, Elaine attended Culinary School.
During her working career, she was employed at the Georgetown Public Hospital until she migrated to the United States. After her migration in 1989 she was employed at Boscov’s Department Store, Blue Ridge Haven East Assisted Living and the Hilton & Towers Hotel for 30 years. She was a hard working employee who never wanted to call off work.
Elaine loved dancing, traveling and cruising the Caribbean with her family. She visited her homeland, Guyana annually. She loved to pamper herself and would dress in some of the most flashy but elegant outfits.
She was the widow of Andrew Alexander Scantlebury and in addition to her parents, her daughters, Lindi Dawson Hall and Jennifer McKinnon; her brothers, Malcolm, Leon and George McKinnon; her sister, Yvonne Clarke; her grandson, Morryl Scantlebury, all preceded her in death.
Elaine leaves to celebrate her life and to cherish precious memories, her son, Leslie McKinnon (Patricia); her daughters, Carol McKinnon and Marcia Bagot (Ralph); her sister, Irma Alladin; her grandchildren, Kerwin, Marvin, Jameel, Keesha, Shayla, Venicea and Dacia; her three great grandchildren, Jahvon, Amir and Marcus; her nieces and nephews, Carlton, Maureen, Rudolph, Colin, Desmond, Terrence, Trevor, Jacqueline, Lorraine, Tonia, Teddy, Joann, Mark and 10 others; her friend, Lynette Fraser; her caregiver for 3 years, Andrea Green and a host of other relatives and friends.
Our Hero, she will be missed.
Elaine’s life will be celebrated on Monday, November 7 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 1439 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA with viewing Sunday, November 6 at 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton.
