Obituary For Deacon Thomas Walker

Deacon Thomas L. Walker was born November 17, 1934, to the late Hal and Esther Walker in North Carolina. He departed this life on October 29, 2022 and entered into eternal rest.

Deacon Walker was educated in the public school system of North Carolina, completing his formal education at Leak Street High School in Rockingham, NC. After graduating he enlisted in the Army where he proudly served for 26 years, retiring in 1976.

While visiting his sister Mattie at Shaw University a young lady caught his eye, who would later become the love of his life whom he married on June 26, 1962. To this union, two sons were born Jeffrey DeRon and Kevin Renard.

Deacon Walker went on to work at Peoples Life insurance in Petersburg for 8 years then moved on to Dominion Security in Chester, where he worked for 10 years. He would then leave Dominion and work at JCPenney’s as an inventory manager for 10 years until he finally retired.

After retiring, “Walker” as most friends & family referred to him, would spend most of his time doting on his grandkids and pretty much every child in the family and the church. Deacon Walker & Carolyn spent many years traveling and loving on family and friends. No distance was too far for them to travel to go and check on loved ones. Faithful to the word of God Deacon Walker & Carolyn traveled from Virginia to Fuquay to attend First Baptist Church, Fuquay Varina NC for 26 years, before finally moving their memberships back to Tabernacle Baptist Church. Both Deacon Walker & Carolyn were devoted, devout, and dependable members.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life Carolyn Trice-Walker; brothers Harold Walker, Haywood Walker,  William Walker, and Edgar Walker, sisters; Thelma Walker, Mattie Kirven, and Reatha Walker. sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Doris Walker, Marie McQuaig, Alease Trice, Nettie Cassell, James Trice, Alonzo Jones, Walter Jones, and Rev. Harold F. Trice, Sr.

I am very saddened to have heard of the transition of Thomas. He and one of my older brothers, Alvin Ingram graduated together in 1954. They were the best of friends, and therefore, he spent many nights at our house. Although, during that time, I was in the 3rd grade when they graduated. When I became the President of the Leak Street Alumni, Inc. National Board, he and Carolyn were two of my great supporters. He always treated me like his little sister. Often times, he would tell me to stop by VA and spend the night before driving to NC from Baltimore, but, I never did. Moreover, I would stop by on occasions to eat those fried fish in that wash pot. Sending my Heartfelt Sympathy, Condolences and Prayers to Clint, Eugene (my classmate) and the entire family. Thomas will most certainly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Prayerfully submitted, Dr. Estella Ingram-Levy Baltimore, Maryland
