Obituary For Alonzo Cathcart
UPDATE ON SERVICES
Alonzo Reid Cathcart Jr. age 78, passed away October 30th, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Belmont, NC on November 6th, 1943 to the late Alonzo and Elizabeth Cathcart. He is also preceded in death by his wife Mozelle Alston Cathcart.
Alonzo graduated from Reid High School in Belmont, NC. He graduated from Johnson C. Smith University and taught history at Henderson Institute in Henderson, NC. He later retired from the Travelers Insurance Company after having a successful and fulfilling career. Alonzo enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. He loved watching the History Channel, reading, eating a good steak, cheering for the Carolina Panthers and taking naps.
Alonzo was known for his insight about history and sense of humor. He could talk for hours to anyone that would listen and truly never met a stranger. He will be missed by his family, friends, and favorite grandchild Rambo.
Survivors include his son, Anthony Cathcart of Gastonia, NC; daughter Tonda Cathcart Kee and husband Tony of Gastonia, NC. Grandchildren: Phillip Cathcart and wife Katy , Trent Cathcart and wife Danielle, Douglas Edgerton, Briar Cathcart, Jordan Chambers and Kameron Kee; Great-Grands: Cheyenne Johnson, Alex Cathcart, Madden Cathcart, Sam Cathcart and Kallie Cathcart. Special niece and nephew: Harriet Cathcart Feimster and Wilbur Cathcart. Fur-grandbabies: Rambo, Hugo and Bella.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14th, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Neely’s Grove AME Zion Church 3321 S. New Hope Rd. Gastonia, NC 28056.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Henderson Institute Graduates and Former Students Associations, Inc. P.O Box 2081 Henderson, NC 27536 in memory of Alonzo Cathcart
