She was born in Amelia, Virginia, daughter of the late James Gibson and the late Eolia Gray Jordan.
Gertrude graduated from the former William Penn Senior High School and having a desire to further her education, she received her Master’s Degree from Penn State University. She retired from the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot.
She was a faithful member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, where she was very active and was a long time member of her church choir. In the community she was on the board of the Steelton Borough and just stepped down last December.
Gertrude was an artist in many things to include oil painting, water colors and tole painting ceramics.
She was the widow of James Nelson “Buddy” Saunders, Sr. and in addition to him and her parents, her son, James “Jimmy” Saunders, Jr., preceded her in death.
Gertrude leaves to celebrate her life and to cherish precious memories, her daughter, Karen “Kandi” Saunders; her four grandsons; her eight great grandchildren; her six great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her life will be celebrated on Thursday, November 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, 704 N. Front Street, Steelton, PA with viewing and visitation 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. and burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
