Sallie Frances Cardwell Pickard, 85, of Newport News, VA passed October 31, 2022. A memorial service will be Sunday, November 6, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in the Mary D. Perry Memorial Chapel (Perry-Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC).

Mrs. Sallie Frances Cardwell Pickard was born August 12, 1937, in Madison, NC to the late Neal and Nannie Mae Hayes Cardwell. She departed this life

Sallie attended the former Charles R. Drew School before moving to Newport News, Virginia. She was a seamstress for a factory company, until it closed. She met and married Cleo Dell Pickard, Sr. and to their union twin boys was born.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, two daughters; Vernetta Francis Hunter and Melvina Pickard, son-in-law; Rev. Henry Hunter, sister; Mattie Malloy and two brothers; John Will Cardwell and Charles L. Cardwell.

She leaves to celebrate her life: daughter; Beverly Diane Lee (Quincy), five sons; Billy Ray Tucker (Rev. Rhonda), Carlos D. Cardwell of Madison, NC, Ricky D. Cardwell, Cleo Dell Pickard, Jr and Leo Dell Pickard (Reginia) all of Newport News, VA, two sisters; Elder Linda Cardwell Clodfelter of Eden, NC, Reginia C. Ziglar of Ridgeway, VA, two brothers; David Cardwell and John M. Cardwell (Jackie) both of Madison, NC, nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
