Constance Nichole Jones was born on October 27, 1979 in Greensboro, North Carolina, to Earl Alonzo Holman Jones and Mae Waterman Jones. She departed this life on November 1, 2022. Nikki, as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was the only child born to her parents, but she was sister to Reginald and Deadra, and to her numerous male cousins, because all except one of them had no sister of their own. From early childhood, it was obvious that Nikki was very bright, intelligent and wise beyond her years. She excelled in all she did. Nikki attended and graduated with high marks from Jones Elementary School, Jackson Middle School and James B. Dudley High School Math and Science Academy in Greensboro, North Carolina. While at Dudley Academy, she played the oboe and flute in the marching band and participated in numerous clubs and extracurricular activities including the Greensboro Youth Council and Anytown Summer Youth Leadership Program. During high school, Nikki won first runner-up in the Guilford County Miss Black Teenage World Pageant, where she recited the poem, Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou, to resounding applause. She went on to compete in the Teen Miss North Carolina Pageant at North Carolina A&T State University. She graduated from East Carolina University with a B.S. in Childhood Development & Family Relations and an M.B.A. in Human Resources Management/Personnel Administration from Strayer University. Soon after earning her graduate degree, she began a successful career with the U.S. Federal Government, and was currently working as the Associate Director of Personnel Security Education in the Virginia/D.C. area. As a child, Nikki would sit at her Grandma Mattie’s feet, learning from her…soaking up her love, wisdom, and mannerisms. For many years, Nikki was the only granddaughter, and the grandsons--her cousins--would frequently remind her that “she was grandma’s favorite” because they always got in trouble and she never did! They’ve shared many laughs about how much trouble the boys used to get into. Nikki accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young child, and loved singing with the Busy Bees Children’s choir. Church has always been a huge part of the Waterman family culture. Nikki and the whole family attended church together on Sundays and had family dinner at grandparent’s home right after service. These moments cemented the importance of family gatherings for all the Waterman children and grandchildren. The family was always very close knit, celebrating holidays and special occasions, and vacationing together throughout the years. These family traditions were started by her late grandparents, James and Mattie Waterman, Sr., and were often spearheaded by Uncle Karlie, Nikki and her mom. Nikki especially loved the family vacations and gatherings, and since her grandma’s passing, she took on the responsibility of organizing the family events. Nikki was indeed Grandma Mattie’s second “mini me,” right behind her mom. She made sure each and every great grandchild had a gift for Christmas, and she showered her entire family with her love, devotion, and tokens of affection, including the Waterman Family Calendar she created and gifted each year at Christmas. Nikki, like each member of the Waterman Family, was a servant at heart, always putting others before herself. Nikki married the love of her life, Jerome Milton on April 26, 2014. Nikki and Jerome were a match made in heaven. His calm was matched by her exuberant and outgoing personality. They enjoyed many years together, traveling, loving each other’s company, feasting on her elaborate meals, and raising a family together. From their union was born two beautiful boys, Jerome Levon “J. Levon” Jones Milton II and Jercolby Levon Jones Milton. The boys were her life. She absolutely loved being a mother and was the best mother in the world to them. Nothing was too much for her boys. She lavished her love on them in a way that was admired by family and friends. If you had the privilege of being Nikki’s friend on Facebook, you have probably seen glimpses of those beautiful moments. In addition to her grandparents, James and Mattie Waterman, Sr., and James and Clarice Holman, she was also proceeded in death by her aunt, Margaret Waterman, and uncles, John Waterman (Brenda) and Larry Waterman. Nikki leaves to cherish her memory, loving husband, Jerome Milton; children: Jerome Levon Jones Milton II, Jercolby Levon Jones Milton, Jeron Milton, Zane Milton; mother, Mae Waterman Jones; father, Earl Alonzo Holman Jones (Mary); bother, Reginald L. Cunningham, Jr.; sister, Deadra Vample (Huey); great aunt, Laura Lee Waterman; uncles: James Waterman, Jr. (Elva), Frazier Waterman, Jerome Waterman, David Waterman, Kenny Holman (Stephanie); cousins: Carl Waterman, Sr. (Jenora), Tony McCallum (Kendra), Eric Waterman (Tameka), Damon Fox (Tania), Jemiah Waterman, Latisha Hendricks (Kendale), Tyson Morehead; best friends and Godparents of children: Kevin and Tonette McQueen, Antwone and Vimbai Ethridge, Laconia and Felicia Higgs, Ebony Harper and Glenwood Robinson, Chauncy Watson; good friends from Dudley High School Class of ’98, and a host of cousins, family and friends.
