Mr. Bennie William Pate Sr. was born on June 1, 1925 to the late Lewis and Beatrice Pate. He was the second of seven children. Mr. Bennie was preceded in death by: wife Celia Alberta Pate, son Bennie William Pate Jr., daughter Margaret Pate; sisters Carrie O'neal, Eunice Pate, Vergia Toby, Mary Goodman, Annie Ruth Merritt; brothers James Pate and Frank Milner
Bennie accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and joined Bethel Baptist Church, where also attended school. He served as a member on the Trustee Board.
Bennie was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Celia Alberta Pate on November 1, 1952. Family knew him as Big Daddy; friends knew him as B.W. He was a farmer, shade tree mechanic, carpenter…a jack of all trades. He was kind-hearted, gentle, and devoted to all that knew him. He was employed with The Lamar County Road Service for over 40 years where he became the first black Assistant Supervisor.
He was summoned and answered the call of our Heavenly Father to surrender unto him on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
The memories of his life will be cherished by: his children, Wilton (Sandra) Pate of Forest Park, Georgia, Darlene Pate, Verlene (Kenneth) Folson, Mary (Larry) Smith, Jerome (Linda) Pate, ; a loving sister Annie Murphy, all of Barnesville. 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; brother-in law Mr. Robert Harris of Detroit, Michigan; one devoted nephew, Hillman Murphy; a faithful family friend, Lisa Caslin; faithful friends Herman Robinson and Lewis Walker all of Barnesville, Georgia; a loving niece Shirley Dixon of Chicago, Illinois; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends who will all miss him immensely.
