Eugene Williams

Mr. Eugene Williams, Sr. was a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Mr. Curtis Williams, Sr. and Mrs. Savannah Bobo Williams. Eugene was a 1960 graduate of Carver High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Benedict College in Columbia, SC and a Master’s Degree from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. His educational career included Carver High School, Lincoln High School and Dawkins Middle School. Although Eugene knew many of his students, when they crossed the threshold of his classroom he did not expect any more or less of them. He was a master math instructor and knew his content extremely well. He retired after 30 years of service with Spartanburg County School Systems. Eugene accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. His mother, Mrs. Savannah, always made sure her children attended church and Sunday school regularly. He was a former member of the Sunday School Department, Trustee Ministry, and Missionary Ministry. Eugene was a “Good Man”. He was gentle, quiet, peaceful, loving, always willing to help and serve anyone in need. Eugene took pride and pursued a spirit of Excellency in all endeavors. Regardless of where you encountered him, his demeanor was always the same. Eugene had “big” heart for the youth. He was active in Highland community and worked tirelessly at the Bethlehem Community Center. His work at the community center included camp counselor, Boy Scouts of America, little league sports’ coach and tutor. The Highland Community was blessed and honored to have a strong black role model in their midst. Eugene’s greatest hobbies were playing and attending minor and major league sporting events. His favorite professional team was the LA Dodgers. Anytime the opportunity presented itself he traveled with his brother, Theodore, to Atlanta to see their favorite team. Eugene’s children and grandchildren were dear to his heart. He spent much time and effort guaranteeing all their needs was met. He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories: one son, Mr. Eugene (Kiara) Williams, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Meka (Gregory, Jr.) Scott and Mrs. Yolanda (Howard, Sr.) Dawkins; five brothers: Mr. Curtis Williams, Jr., Mr. Lassie (Vernita) Williams, Mr. Theodore Williams, Mr. Kenneth Williams, Mr. Timothy (Sharon) McCreary; two sisters: Mrs. Juanita W. Cross and Mrs. Sherry (Dorian) Mariable all of Spartanburg, South Carolina; nine grandchildren, Ge’Shon Williams, Genee’ Williams, Eugene Williams III, Kailand Williams, Mecoria Suber, Dejarian Scott, Jamal Ferguson, Jaylin Ferguson and Duncan Dawkins; four great-grandchildren, Kenneth Dunlap, Jr., Ka’Liyah Dunlap, Ke’Mijai Dunlap and Tristan Stephens; a devoted caregiver, Mrs. Linda Porter and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. Eugene was predeceased by a sister, Larcey Mae Williams and two brothers, Otis Stinson Williams and Randolph Williams. Eugene lived an active and productive life until his recent illness. During this time the family was truly blessed by Theodore Williams, his brother, as the primary caregiver. Eugene will be sincerely missed by family and friends. . Service will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, Drayton, SC.
