James "Jim" Leonard Hickman

James “Jim” Leonard Hickman, 86 of Bowie, TX, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 17th, 2022 in Fort Worth, TX.

Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22nd, at Bible Baptist Church in Bowie, with Pastor Steve Summers officiating.

Burial will follow at Prairie Branch Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 21st, at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie.

Jim was born March 5th, 1936 in Big Spring, TX to Leonard and Reba (Allen) Hickman, but considered Bowie his hometown. As a young man, he was a decorated athlete at Bowie High School, and went on to run track on a scholarship at the University of Houston. In October 1982, Jim married his love, Carol Hickman, and the couple just celebrated 40 years together.

Jim owned several businesses including Hudson's Restaurant, Little Dairy Queen, Farmer's Cafe and Green Frog. He retired from Menasco Motors Co. in Euless, TX in 1995. Jim enjoyed traveling, classic cars and laughing with friends and family. He was always very active in his community. Jim was a longtime member of Bible Baptist Church, where he served as church treasurer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Jo Roberson and Lenore Lengyel.

Jim is survived by his wife Carol Hickman; sons, Morgan Douglas Hickman, and wife Leah, James Leonard Hickman Jr. and wife Liudmla, and Ty Turkett and wife Karen; daughter Christie Miller and husband Dewayne; 6 granddaughters and 3 grandsons, and Jim thought of them as the most perfect grandchildren ever made; nephew John Roberson; niece Janna Russell; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
