Obituary For Esau Ellis

Mr. Esau Tolbert Ellis was born January 5, 1940 in Rock Hill, South Carolina to the late Adline Elizabeth and Robert Freedom Ellis, Sr. He transitioned from his earthly home on Sunday; November 20, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. Esau was educated in the Rock Hill School District and was a faithful member of the United House of Prayer for All People in Gastonia, North Carolina where he served as an usher. He was employed by JP Stevens and retired from China Grove Textile. He loved fishing, working on lawn mowers, action movies, going to church, volunteering and traveling without him having to drive. Esau will be truly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Esau was a member of the St. Matthews Lodge #11 Scottish Rites, Gastonia, NC where he was a 33rd degree Mason under the direction of Calvary Grand Council, Kannapolis, NC; a member of the Shriner, Ancient Arabic Grand Council of Mystic Shriners, Syria Temple, Kannapolis, NC and member of the United Supreme Council, Mt. Moriah, Kannapolis, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert F. and Adline Ellis; a son: Telly-Savalas Ellis; brothers: Jake Ellis, Arnold “Junior” Ellis, Nathaniel Ellis, Samuel Ellis, Emmanuel Ellis and Napoleon Ellis; sisters: Ruth Mae Craig, Lizzie Ellis, Juanita Barnes and Carrie Ellis and a grandson: Quintonio Ellis.

Precious memories will be forever cherished by his wife of 49 years: Jannie Ellis of the home; his children: Cynthia Williams (Willie Williams), Tolbert Ellis (special friend: Angie); Jennifer Rushing (James Rushing); Jason Ellis (special friend: Trell) and Jermaine Ellis; sisters: Frances (Robert) Funderburke, Barbara (Joseph) Wilson, Marilyn Wright and Lizzie Mae McCullen; brother: Randy Patton; fourteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viewing at the funeral home on Friday; November 25, 2022 from 1 until 6

Funeral on Saturday; November 26, 2022 at House of Prayer for All People-1208 N. York Street, Gastonia at 1:00 p.m.

Visitation is one hour before the service from 12 noon til 1

Interment: Armstrong Cemetery, Gastonia

Masks are required at all services
