Obituary For Frank Howell, Jr.

A celebration of life for Mr. Frank Howell, Jr. of Talladega, 87, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Cole Temple COGIC. Superintendent W. E. Hearn, Sr. will deliver the eulogy. Interment will take place in Kelly Springs Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 11:30. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022.

On March 15, 1935, Frank Howell, Jr. began life’s journey in Talladega, Alabama to the union of Frank Howell and Claudia Mae Coleman Howell.

Mr. Howell made Cole Temple COGIC his final place of worship until his health began to fail. During his time at Cole Temple, he was appointed to the position of Elder and played the guitar during worship services. He also served as an assistant pastor at Old Path COGIC during his time of residency in the Chicago area. Upon completion of his education in Talladega, Frank relocated to Chicago, Illinois to begin a new life. He spent his entire professional career working for Material Laboratory Solutions. In addition to his love for playing the guitar, Frank was quite the comedian, dabbled in being a handyman, he enjoyed working on puzzles and had appreciation and love for animals. Frank had met and married the former Annie Mae Johnson from Talladega. They spent many years creating a family and making a life together until her passing in 2008.

Frank will be missed by his three daughters, Jewel Howell of Birmingham, Alabama, Alonia (Kenneth) Sims of Center Point, Alabama and Patricia (Nathaniel) Hutson of Chicago, Illinois; one son, Frederick (Cynthia) Kirkland of Childersburg, Alabama; twenty-one grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one sister, Nellie Burno of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Howell reunited with his wife, Annie Mae Howell; children, Beverly Hall, Annette Bradley and Franklin Howell; parents, Frank Howell, Claudia Mae Howell; stepmother, Willie Mae Howell; and siblings, James Howell, Katherine Pope, Calvin Howell and Dorothy Carter.
