Obituary For John Wiley Burrell, Sr

John Wiley Burrell, Sr., son of the late James (Duddy) and Dora H. Burrell, was born on August 11, 1939, in Wake County, North Carolina. He departed this life of 83 years on November 27, 2022, at his home.

Deacon Burrell attended Fuquay Consolidated in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. He was a truck driver for 35 years. At an early age, he joined the First Baptist Church of Fuquay Varina, where he was a devoted deacon and a member of the male chorus and men’s fellowship. Deacon Burrell always loved and put God first. he read his bible daily, and he loved his family and church family and friends. Deacon Burrell was taught to respect and show love to everyone. Until his health began to decline, he was active and loved sports.

In addition to his parents, James (Duddy) and Dora H. Burrell, Deacon Burrell was preceded in death by his son, Stephon P. Burrell; and a brother, James Burrell, Jr.

Deacon Burrell leaves to cherish his memories: wife of 63 years, wife, Mary Pennington Burrell of the home; children, Deborah Burrell Adams of Fuquay Varina, Marian Burrell Griffin of Garner, John W. Burrell, Jr. (Phyllis), of Garner; Charlene Burrell of Raleigh, and Michael T. Burrell (Paulita) of Fuquay Varina; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many others who he was a father figure to; daughter-in-law, Thelia; two sisters, Bessie Grimes (Ernest) of Raleigh and Minister Betty Sneed (Reverend Herbert Sneed) of Fuquay-Varina; three sisters-in-law, Louise Utley of NC, Sharon Fields (James) of GA, Lisa Mcneil (Donald) of NY; one brother-in-law, Nathan McNeil of NY; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Viewing: 4:00 - 6:00 pm Friday, December 2, 2022 at Trice Funeral Home Chapel, 127 N. West Street in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.

Visitation: 12:00 - 12:30 pm Saturday, December 3, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.

Funeral will be held 12:30 pm Saturday, December 3, 2022 at First Baptist Church, 105 N. West Street in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.

Burial: Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street in Raleigh, NC 27603

Masks are required in order to attend the visitation and or funeral service.
