Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Joyner, 70 911 Floral Avenue, Sumter, SC, will be held 2:00pm, Saturday, December 10, 2022, at St. Rest Holiness Church, 360 E. Sumter Street, Mayesville, SC, with interment to follow in Mayesville Cemetery.

Thomas “Fatboy” Joyner entered this world January 12, 1952 to the late Henry and Josephine Joyner in Estill, South Carolina. He left this world November 29, 2022.

Thomas’ younger years were spent in Miami, Florida, where he was educated in the Dade County Public School System. He was employed by various companies during his time in the workforce.

Thomas met his soulmate, Juanita (Nita), in Miami, and they were united in Holy Matrimony six months later, on January 12, 1984.

Although no children were born of this union, Juanita’s Children: Lisa, Gail and Joseph became his, as did her niece, Thomasina.

Thomas also took his granddaughter, Michelle, Niece, Claudia and Nephew, Joel (Poppy), under his wing of parenthood.

Thomas and Juanita relocated to Sumter in 1987, where he became the owner/operator of J & J Trucking, prior to becoming employed at Sumter County Waste Management Landfill for 27 years, until health issues forced his to retire.

Thomas seek and found our Lord and Savior at St. Rest Holiness in Maysville, South Carolina, under assistant pastor Rev. Witherspoon, where he jumped steadfast into anything he could do for his St. Rest family. He became a trustee on the board and helped his loving wife and the women of St. Rest’s Kitchen Ministry.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shelia; brothers: William and Bernard; sisters-in-law: Minnie (BayBay), Sarah, Anna Jane, Shirley and Mary; and brothers-in-law: Shack, Esau, Jacob and Henry.

Thomas leaves to mourn and cherish his memory: his wife, Juanita; children: Lisa, Gail (Lorenzo) of Miami, FL, Joseph (Marlo) of Sumter, SC; sisters: Henrietta and Mary both of Miami, FL; brothers: Linwood (Jettie) of Palm Bay, FL and Grayland (Brenda) of Harlem, GA; close and dear friends: Jack Thompson and brothers ;and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other loving relatives and dear friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 9, 2022, from 4:00pm - 6:00pm at Kingdom Builders Deliverance Church, Sumter, SC.

Family and friends may visit the residence of his wife, Juanita Burgess Joyner, 911 Floral Avenue, Sumter, SC or call Simmons Funeral Home and Crematory of Orangeburg, SC.
