Venena S. Preston

On Monday, December 5, 2022, Venena Sue Preston 65, of Kings Row, Martinsville and formally of Atlanta, GA, transitioned from this earthly life at Webbstar Cobb Hospital, Decatur, GA. Born November 19, 1957, in Virginia, she was the daughter of Marion Young Preston, and the late Walter Louis Preston, Sr.

Venena was a graduate of Martinsville High School class of 1976. After graduating from Martinsville High School, Venena went on to further her education by enrolling at Hampton University where she received her bachelor’s degree. With a zeal for learning, Venena enrolled at Webster University where she received her master’s degree in Business Administration. Venena was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She retired as a Railroad Dispatcher at CSX Railroad after many years of service.

Venena leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Marion Young Preston of Martinsville, VA; one son, Khalil Baker of Martinsville, VA; one daughter, Eboni “Nicholas” Goddard of Powder Springs, GA; one grandson, Nicholas Louis Goddard of Powder Springs, GA; two sisters, Iris “Wayne” Clevert of Glen Allen, VA, and Faith Wilson of Martinsville, VA; two brothers, Walter L. “Sun Pok” Preston, Jr. of Hampton, GA, and Robert (Lan) “Nancy” Preston of Collinsville, VA; two aunts, Sue Gill of Martinsville, VA, and Matilene Grogan of Roanoke, VA; one uncle, Posey Young of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 1310 Carver Rd., Martinsville. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required.
