Obituary For Benjamin Matchett, Jr.

Mr. Benjamin (Bennie) Matchett Jr. was born on March 10, 1950 to the late Benjamin Matchett and Velma Deloris Matchett. He was the second oldest of 11 children. He graduated from Westside High School, class of 69,also Valdosta Val Area Tec-Welding and retired from South Georgia Medical Center of 33 years. Ben accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age, attended Mt. Vienna AME Church. He loved the Lord with all his heart. He was united in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Sherry Rayford Matchett for almost 50 years. To this union one son was born, Winfrid L. Matchett. Ben had a pure heart of gold, always giving and taking care of the elderly and sick. His missionary work and service in the community was done with a big smile and a heart full of love. He loved talking about the Lord and willing to share the word with you. Ben departed this life on Friday, December 16, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father Benjamin Matchett Sr. and mother Velma Deloris Matchett. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his lovely, faithful wife Sherry Matchett; his wonderful son Winfrid L. Matchett of Valdosta, GA; sisters Jean Mckinnon, Rebecca McEady, Linda Miller (Charles), all of Valdosta, GA, Elaine Felder of Lithonia, GA, Eloise Luke (Craig) of Stone Mountain, GA, and Shirley Mattocks (Claude) of Decatur, GA; brothers Johnnie Matchett (Dorothy) of Valdosta, GA, Samuel Matchett of Atlanta, GA, Stevie Matchett (Cathy) of Valdosta, GA, Terry Matchett of Norcross, GA, Jeffery Matchett of Valdosta, GA, and James Robinson (Cindy) of Valdosta, GA; sisters-in-law Ruby Shaw of Miami, FL, Rev. Violet Ewell (Harold) of St. Louis, MO ,Betty Mumford (Earl) and Catherine Wright of Valdosta, GA; brothers-in-law Harry Rayford (Lillie) of Thomasville, GA, Willie Rayford (Patrica), John Rayford (Essie), Elijah Rayford and James Jones all of Valdosta, GA; aunts Sallie Brinkley (Thomas) and Ann Reed Bryd of Woodstock GA,; goddaughter Ariel Freeman of Athens, GA; special cousins Earnest Reed of Crawfordville, FL and Jason Collier of Valdosta, GA; special friends Isiah Burgman, Calvin Robinson, James Montgomery all of Valdosta, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends, “Weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning” Psalm 30

Home going service for Mr. Benjamin Matchett, Jr. will be held on Tuesday, December 27 at 11:00 A. M. at Mt. Vienna A. M. E. Church Rev. Robert Angrisha, Sr. is the pastor, and Rev. Norman Edwards will officiate. Burial will follow in the Register Cemetery.
