Obituary For Lucy Mae Wright Heath

On Wednesday, March 23, 1938 in Dixie, Georgia, a star was born to Deacon Weadom and Deaconess Pearlie Manning Wright. Her name was Lucy Mae Wright. Lucy was the fourth of twelve children.

Lucy really loved the Lord. She joined Beulah Hill Baptist Church at an early age. She was educated in the Brooks County School System where she met and later married Dr. John H. Cummings II, who was one of her teachers. To this union two children were born, Darry and John III.

Lucy attended the International Beauty Academy where she obtained a Cosmetology certification. Later she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Almeda University.

After some years, Lucy met Dr. John Robert Heath. They got married and enjoyed 25 years of marital bliss until he went home to be with the Lord. She had two step-children from this union, Robin and Jonathan.

Lucy was really a funny, kindhearted and fun loving lady. There is not a person who met her that she did not leave a loving impression with. She was loved by so many. She was affectionately called “Lulu” by many who loved her. Most of all she was the glue of her 11 siblings. She loved them and enjoyed coming home to Dixie, Georgia, for many occasions: family and school reunions, holidays, and most of all, just because she wanted to enjoy siblings, cousins, friends and neighbors. Lucy worked at Volusia County School Board as an Administrative Assistant and retired after 27 years. Afterward she worked at Bethune-Cookman University as Procurement Specialist and retired after 25 years.

Lucy and her husband John Robert were devoted members of their beloved Stewart Memorial AME Church, where they both sang in the choir and where Lucy was secretary of the finance department for many years.

This amazing Mother and Grandmother loved having gatherings at her home where she cooked and baked the most amazing dishes. Her specialties were her double chocolate cake and her pineapple coconut cake. But really anything she cooked was always amazing and delicious. Lucy’s favorite phrase was, “I am a Child of God”. Her favorite song was, “Take Your Problems to The Lord and Leave Them There”. Her favorite thing to do was to sop greens with cornbread, and her favorite place to go was to church and Dry Lake Road.

On Sunday morning, December 18, 2022 at 7:50 AM, the Lord called our precious Angel home to join her parents Weadom and Pearlie, seven siblings: Lottie, Weadom Jr., Jimmie, Pedro, Pearline, Willie Gerald and Aristine.

Lucy touched many lives, and now leaves to cherish her loving memory: two sons, Darry K. Cummings (Sharon) Oak Hill FL, and John H. Cummings III, Port Orange FL; step children, Robin Heath, South Daytona FL, Jonathan Heath, Orlando FL; 11 grandchildren: Chaudrian (Jodi), St. Cloud FL, Antwan (Bryanna) Tucson AZ, Larry (Jocelyn), Orlando FL, Thomas, Clayton NC, Jamahr, Atlanta GA, Darious, Los Angeles CA, Chantel, Orlando FL, Jamaris, Viera FL, Nicholas (Edlena), Atlanta GA, Chanda, Lake Mary FL, Adrian (Virgo), Orlando FL, Sidney, South Daytona Beach FL; 21 great-grands, 2 great-great grands; 4 siblings: George Wright (Joyce), Miami FL, James Wilbur Wright (Jackie), Decatur GA, Patricia Ann Jenkins (Anthony), Monticello FL and Dannie Wright, Atlanta GA; 2 sisters-in-law: Mattie Wright, Midland PA, Gladys Wright, Stone Mountain GA; 1 brother-in-law, James R. Merrick, Oak Hill FL; beloved cousin, Evelyn Sweet, Orlando FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her and will miss her dearly.
