Frances attended Westmoreland County Public Schools and graduated from A. T. Johnson High School in 1952. She graduated from Saint Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Virginia in 1956 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. While at Saint Paul’s, Frances was initiated into the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She completed her Master’s Degree in Education at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia in 1965.
Frances began her career in Westmoreland County Public Schools. Throughout the duration of her career, she taught grades spanning from first through twelfth. She went on to become the first African American female principal in Westmoreland County at Washington District Elementary School. She retired with more than 35 years of service. During her retirement, Frances spent twelve years on the Westmoreland County School Board.
Frances leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Sandra Jenkins Clark (Richard, Jr.); Clarence N. Jenkins, Jr. (Pamela); Lisa Jenkins Haynie (Philip, III); grandchildren, Richard Clark, III, Alexandra Clark, Sydney Jenkins, Berkley Jenkins Adekoya (Wale’), McKinley Jenkins, Clarence N. Jenkins, III, Colette Haynie, Philip Haynie, IV, Trevor Haynie; sister-in-law, Helen Reed; nephews, Michael Reed, Sr., Gernard Reed, Cory Reed; and a host of extended family and friends.
Remains rest at Scott’s Funeral Home where family will receive friends on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. On Saturday, January 7, 2023 there will be a visitation at Galilee Baptist Church, Montross, VA from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M., where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Interment Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery.
