Barbara Ann Strong Vincent was born on January 2, 1943, in Richton, Mississippi. She was the fifth child of six born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Anthony and Wille Mae Evers Strong. Her Christian journey began at a young age at New Hope Baptist Church in Richton, Mississippi. Barbara’s education began at Mattie Wayne Jones School in Richton, Mississippi, and she graduated from here in 1960. She then attended Alcorn State College for two years where she met her future husband, the late Jesse Vincent. Later, she transferred to and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Science from Mississippi Valley State College in 1967. Barbara went on to fulfill her childhood dream of being an educator. After graduating from college, she began her public school teaching career in Rolling Fork, Mississippi, and throughout the Mississippi Delta. After thirteen years, she relocated to Ashburn, Georgia and continued teaching Special Education and Elementary Education in the Turner County Public School System. During the 2002-2003 school year, Barbara was named the Kindergarten through 2nd grade (K-2) Teacher of the Year for Turner County Elementary School. She was also honored as the Overall Teacher of the Year for Turner County Schools. She completed twenty-seven years of teaching for the county until retiring in 2007. Her time as an educator spanned over four decades and shaped the lives of hundreds of children.

Outside of the classroom, Barbara was also an active member of the Ashburn community and a lover of Christ. She was led by God to use her talents and skills to positively impact her surroundings. She was a long-time tutor and mentor for the Turner County Boys’ Club. She also shared her musical talents as a church pianist for Bethlehem Baptist Church and later for New Mt. Zion First Baptist Church. After becoming a member of New Mt. Zion, she also spent many years as the church secretary, a choir member, and a singer for the One Accord Praise Team. Later in life, she joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Shingler, Georgia. Here she enjoyed being an active member of the music department and a Mother of the Church.

While also being a devoted educator, she was also a loving wife and mother. Barbara married her college sweetheart, the late Jesse Collum Vincent, in 1964. Their union brought forth their three children: the late Needra Vincent Yancey, Mona Vincent Reynolds and Jeston Vincent. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Vincent; eldest daughter, Needra Vincent Yancey; siblings: Edgar Strong, Donald Strong, and Antholene Strong Clark. On Friday, December 30, 2022, she transitioned from this life peacefully while surrounded by family and friends. Barbara leaves to carry her legacy her daughter, Mona (Gilbert) Reynolds; son, Jeston (Rotunda) Vincent; granddaughters, Jacora Smart & Jacolyn Smart; brother, Andrew Lee Strong; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends.

I am at a loss for words over the passing of my dear friend. Devastated and distraught don't adequately express my feelings. Barbara and I had just spoken 3 nights ago about how happy she was to have her family celebrate Christmas at her home. She said they were "secretly" planning a celebration for her upcoming birthday on January 2nd. Now she's gone!! I can't even imagine the grief this family is experiencing at this time. Jeston, Mona, Jackie, and Jacora, please know that I love you and mourn with you during this time of sadness and sorrow. I pray that God will extend His loving arms to cover each of you with His mercy and grace. With deepest sympathy-Nell Mathis
