Obituary of Lois Benton

A Time to Be Born: Lois Barbara Benton was born on October 21st, 1958, to her loving parents Alma and George Mason. Lois transitioned this earthly Life on Monday December 19th,2022, at New York Presbyterian Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York leaving her children and grandchildren devastated. She is the 4th sibling of 5 children from Alma and George. A Time to Grow: Lois Grew up in Marcy Houses where she was known and loved by everyone in her neighborhood. She was educated in the New York City public school system. She attended Clara Barton High School excelling in their Dental Hygiene program. She graduated in 1976. After, Lois attended York College obtaining some college credits before landing a job at Citibank. She was employed at Citibank until her untimely death (42 years) and was set to retire in March of 2023. A Time to Live: On January 27th, 1977, Lois gave birth to a beautiful boy name Joseph R. Beckham and raise him with the help of family and her husband James E. Benton. Lois and James met in the 1980'5. They fell in love fast and quickly realized that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Lois and James got married January Znd, 1986. Lois and James had their first child together on August 3rd, 1985. They named her Natalia Sherrice Benton. Three years later, they had their second child James E. Benton Jr. on September 28th,1988. Prior to marriage, James had a daughter named Rhonda Diggs which Lois always look at her as a daughter and raised her as such. Lois was a workaholic who dedicated her time and effort to her job day in and day out. She made several friends while working at Citibank. Among those are (but not limited to) were Jackie Gorham, Jamiin Collins, Grace Kies, Naliiene Chinkan, Paulette, Josephine, Wilford Horne, and others. Throughout her years, Lois enjoyed conversing with her clients and providing quality customer service at Citibank. A Time to Worship: Lois loved God. During the 1990's, Lois was introduced to The Greater Bible Way Temple Church with Pastor Huie L. Rogers. It wasn't long before Lois decided to give her life to God and become a faithful member of that church. She decided to join the Usher Board, there she made several brothers and sisters through Christ, Sister Ernestine Jenkins, Deacon Larry Jenkins, Sister Sally Housey, Sister Bernice Peters, Sister Judy and lastly Sister Caroline Smith. Through all she had one special friend, Mary Twyman. Lois and Mary were best friends. Lois and Mary (The Golden Girls as we called them) shared many memories and fun times together in church as well as outside of church. A Time to Mourn: Lois is proceeded in death by her husband James E. Benton (She went to be with the love of her life), her parents Alma Mason, and George Mason, her loving sister Deborah Terry, her loving brother George Mason, her brother-in-law Solomon Benton, Kenneth Crosland, her sister-in-Law Geraldine Crosland, her nephew Timothy and a special cousin, Hilda Ford. Lois Leaves to cherish her memories her loving sons Joseph R. Beckham (Yesenia Beckham) of White Plains, NY and James E. Benton Jr. (Katrice) of Brooklyn, NY, She leaves her loving daughter (Best Friend) Natalia S. Lewis of Brooklyn, NY (Joel Lewis). Three grandchildren who she adored, Amari Benton, Sophia Relf-Benton, And Journee Lewis. Her brothers Sidney Mason and Larry Mason (Selma). Her devoted nieces Shanee Terry, Shawanta Martin, Aisha Mason, Nicole Mason, Tomekia Mason, Petrice Baker, Roshanda Baker, Lakeicia Cox, Lateshia Benton, Jasslynn Colon, Whitney Watson, and Dajah Baker. Her devoted nephews, Larry Mason, Andre Benton, Carl Watson, Robert Baker Jr., Joseph Benton, Emmanuel Colon, and Eric Benton. Brothers and sisters in law; Jessie Mae Watson (Carl), Denise Colon (Emmanuel), Robert Baker (Estell), Joyce Mason, and Bobby Benton (Mary). In addition to a very special friend, Issac Gill. Lastly, she leaves memories for her cousins Claudine Nobles, Dolicia Monroe, Cherise Leocadio, Shakena Ford, Chantell Green and other cousins relatives and friends.
