Willie B. Hammond, Jr.

Willie B. Hammond, Jr. was born on October 3,1955, in Newington, Georgia to Wille B. Hammond, Sr. and Maggie Lee Hammond. Willie was educated by the Public-School System of Saint Lucie County and a graduate of Fort Pierce Central Class of 1973. He met the love of her life, Donna Spivey Hammond in 1972, and they were married September 14, 1975; a 49-year love affair. They raised three beautiful children.

Willie was employed with the City of Fort Pierce, retiring in 2017. He was a member of Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Clarence Ingram, serving as a Senior Usher, Musician and in any other capacity as needed. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, and Friend to all who knew him.

Willie had a heart of gold and loved his family and friends. He loved music, was a founding member of Thick Band & the 7:30 Band and a DJ for many local events.

On Sunday, December 25, 2022, our Heavenly father called Willie from labor to reward. He is preceded in death by his Wife: Donna Spivey Hammond; Father: Wille B. Hammond, Sr.; Son: Willie “Bud” Hammond, III; Brothers-in-law: Johnny Spivey, Lasella Spivey, Ulyess Spivey, Carl Spivey, Luke Spivey, Matthew Spivey; Sisters-in-law: Alberta Patterson, Bernice Spivey; Aunts: Daisey Grant, Justine Kent, Victoria Reynolds, Ruby Green, Minnie Lee Sheppard, and Rose Lee Hammond; Uncles: Alonzo Smith, Charles Smith, Carey Hammond, Robert (RJ) Hammond, Roy Charles (Roy C) Hammond and Earnest (Sonny) Hammond and Niece: Tonya Washington.

Those left to cherish her memories include Children: Decreta Meely (Michael Grant), LaTonya (Darryl) Counts; Grandchildren: Anthony Meely, Jr., Caleb Hammond, De’Jah Meely, Deshaun Counts, Darius Counts; Mother: Maggie Lee Hammond: Surrogate Children: Jeronda Benjamin, Ke’ja Ryals, Tavarius English, Ca’marion Celestin, Carlton Celestin, Jr., Khloe Celestin; Sisters-in-law: Gena (Jerome Benjamin) Spivey, Annette Spivey, Sharon Spivey and Terry Dixon; God Son: Garion Miller; Aunt: Lessie Mae (McKinley) Anderson; Uncle: Jack (Mary) Hammond; Nephews and Nieces: Matrecia (Anthony) Phillips, Arvin Washington, Curtis (Sanya) Spivey, Johnna (Michael) Morris, Zelda Wright, Michael Spivey, Artura Spivey, Sr., Jerome Spivey, Leonard Childs, Crystal Spivey, Melissa (Jason) Spivey, Charles (Cheryl) Roundtree, LeDravius Roundtree, Levitius (Marissa) Spivey, Keshia Young, Carlton Celestin, Anthony Lamb, Anthony (Catherine) Smith; Special Cousins: Alonzo (Boss) Smith and Pat Beford; Best Friend: Vince Williams and a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Public visitation for Willie B. Hammond, Jr. will take place on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 3:00pm-7:00pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral services will convene on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL beginning at 2:00pm. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
