Obituary For Sylvia Smith

On Thursday, January 5, 2023, Sylvia Smith 84, of Blue Ridge St., Martinsville transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life. Born February 5, 1938, in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Edith Scales.

In addition to her mother, Sylvia was preceded in death by one daughter, Shelia Campbell; one son, Arvin Scales; three sisters, Margaret Porter, Lucille Kellam, and Ruby Scales; and two brothers, William Scales, and Lafartane Scales.

Sylvia retired from American Furniture Co. after many years of service.

Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Flora (Robert) Keen of Martinsville, VA; one son, Anthony Smith of Collinsville, VA; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Barnett of Cleveland, OH; and a host of other relatives, and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Reverend Tyler C. Millner, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 1310 Carver Rd., Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. In accordance with the CDC, a face covering, and social distancing is required. Other times, the family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Flora and Robert Keen, 1629 Stoney Mountain Rd., Martinsville.
