Obituary For Walter William "Love" Moore, Sr.

A memorial service for Mr. Walter W. Moore Sr.,77, of Talladega will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Talladega Regional Family Life Center - Mt. Canaan. Dr. Horace Patterson will deliver the eulogy.

The Lord’s plan commenced in Talladega, Alabama, onJune 26, 1945, with the birth of Walter William Moore, Sr., son of Frizzel Threat and Eva Moore Roberts.

Mr. Moore became a member of the Mt. Canaan Baptist Church family. His gentle spirit and warm heart could be found greeting parishioners as they entered to worship and salutations as they exit to serve in their community. He displayed good Christian leadership by serving as a past president of the Usher Board and past treasurer of the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was educated in Talladega and graduated from Westside High School in 1965. On August 10, 1965, Walter enlisted in the United States Air Force and honorably served until September 5, 1969, having obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon his return to civilian life, Walter was employed by Crown Textiles and Fort McClellan Fire Department for 28 years as a firefighter and rose to Assistant Chief. After his retirement, he worked for several years for the City of Talladega. On April 2, 1969, at the age of 23, Walter found the favour of the Lord by taking the hand of the former Dale L. Wilson in holy matrimony. The couple made Talladega their home and welcomed to their family two children, Genea and Walter, Jr.

During his lifetime, Walter continued through the natural progression of life which included the passing of his parents, Frizzel Threat and Eva M. Roberts, and brother, Tommy Moore. He knew not the day nor the hour, but he knew that he would be reunited with his family members. On January 6, 2023, Walter’s time had come, and he answered the Lord’s call. Walter will be missed by his wife of 53 years, Dale; children, Genea (Dwight) Monroe and Walter W. (Christina) Moore, Jr.; grandchildren, Chris Monroe, Keyuana Moore, Nicholas Monroe and Asia Moore; two great grandsons, Kyran Moore and Zaid Moore; sister-in-law, Bobbye (Elgin) Jackson of Talladega, Alabama; two brothers-in-law, Art (Penny) Wilson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and John (Theresa) Colley of Talladega, Alabama; three cousins, Gloria (Michael) Walters, Archie (Deneen) Kidd, Jr. and Ronald Wallace; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
