Obituary For Douglas Lee Blake, Jr.

The funeral services for the late Mr. Douglas Lee Blake, Jr., who departed this life on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Roswell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Roswell, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. from the First African Baptist Church in Sylvester, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Shepard Memorial Garden in Sylvester, Georgia. Mr. Douglas Lee Blake was born on July 30, 1944 in Sylvester, Georgia to Mrs. Sara Blake and the late Mr. Douglas Lee Blake, Sr.

Douglas was educated in the Worth County Public School System. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1970, and served his country in the Vietnam War. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army in 1974.

Douglas gave his life to Christ after returning home from his military service, and joined the First African Baptist Church in Sylvester, Georgia.

Later in his life, Douglas moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. He met and married Carol May on November 26, 1994. This union was blessed with four children.

On January 6, 2023, at Roswell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, this soldier was called to come in from Labor to Reward. His father, his sisters, Aretha Blake, Dorothy Williams, his sister in law, Susan Meredith, his brothers-in-law, David May, Harvey Sanders, have all preceded him in death.

Douglas leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Carol Blake; his children, Selena Blake, Angela Blake, Sirena Tardy, Carol Tardy, Gregory Blake, Justin Blake, Ronald Tardy; his mother, Sara Blake; his sister, Betty Blake Lovett; his sisters-in-law, Cathy Lett, Linda Sanders, Denise King; and a host of grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
