James Isaiah Scales, 76, of Eden, NC passed Tuesday, January 10, 2023. A public viewing will be held from 12:30 p.m. -1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home Chapel, Eden, NC.

Mr. James I. Scales, son of the late Jessie J. Scales and Ruby M. Scales, was born in Rockingham County on July 4, 1946. He departed this life on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 after a short illness.

He was lovingly known as “Scales”, by many and will be remembered for his “trash talking” and his kind heart. He never met a stranger. He was a loving father and son who took care of his sick mother for some time before her passing.

He was a graduate of Douglas High School located in Eden, NC. Soon after graduation he joined the military and served in the United States Marine Corps for several years. After the military, he worked for Modern Day Garbage Company for 15 years but later retired from Greensboro City’s Parks and Recreation .

He leaves to cherish his memory: Daughters; Sonya Colvin of SC, Nicole Scales of NC, Norlisha Borntrager of Ca, and Natalie Scales of Oregon. One son; Jessie Scales of CA. Sister; Geraldine Hamilton of VA, brother; Jimmie G Scales and friend Ms. Mary Richardson of NC. 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and good friends who truly loved him.
