Obituary For Ernest Jackson, Jr.

Mr. Ernest Jackson, Jr. of Madison, Georgia, departed this life Sunday, January 8, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at his residence.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 12:00 PM at St. Paul AME, 847 North 5th Street, Madison, GA.

Public Viewing/Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Shipp's Funeral Home in Sylvester, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Shingler, Georgia.

Mr. Ernest Calvin Jackson Jr. was born on October 12, 1938 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Sr., and Ida Woodard Jackson in the small town of Sylvester, Worth County Georgia, along with his eight siblings: Ruth, Gladys, Mary, Bertha, Thelma, Clyde, Willie and Charles.

Ernest Jackson later attended J.W. Holley School, which he continued until graduating in 1958. After graduating high school, he attended Fort Valley State College in Ft. Valley, Georgia, and held a job while majoring in Agricultural Science and Education, due to his love for animals as a young boy. After graduating from Fort Valley State College with his Bachelors Degree, Ernest decided to visit the small town of Madison, Georgia.

During his visit to Madison, Georgia, Ernest realized how beautiful it was and decided to make Madison his home. Ernest accepted a job as the Agriculture Teacher at Pearl-Burney High School. He also served as basketball coach for Morgan County High School boys basketball team and a substitute bus driver. After teaching school in Morgan County School System for 36 years without ever missing a day, Mr. Jackson retired in 1999.

Mr. Jackson also has hands-on experience in builder contracting and real-estate around Madison, Georgia.

Mr. Jackson leaves behind a wife Beatrice Wade Jackson; three daughters and one son, Brenda (Raymond) Lopez, Alvin (Sheila) Jackson, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jacque (Brandon) Norman of Madison, Georgia, Treta James Smith of Perth-Amboy, New Jersey; three step-daughters, Elaine (Joe) Branch of Monroe, Georgia, Voncile Wade, Cheryl (Michael) Crutchfield, both of Madison, Georgia., two sisters, Ruth Reid, Bertha Sadler; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
