Obituary For Nancy Lee Keith Garrett

A celebration of life for Nancy Lee Keith Garrett, 82, of Childersburg will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Terry's Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be in the Bethel Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nancy Lee Keith Garrett was born on May 14, 1940, in Talladega, Alabama.

She confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. Following graduation from the Talladega County Training School, she completed the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification program at the Wenonah Vocational and Trade School (now Lawson State Community College) in Birmingham, AL. Nursing was a labor of love for Mrs. Garrett as evidenced by her provision of dedicated and caring nursing services to patients in and around the Talladega area for over 27 years as an employee of Citizen’s Hospital and Talladega Internal Medicine practice of Dr. Jimmy Davis. Declining health forced Mrs. Garrett to leave the nursing profession earlier than she desired; however, it did not prevent her from caring for and providing for the needs of others. Whether it was assisting in a friend’s healing, cooking to feed a hungry person or growing and giving garden vegetables (particularly turnip greens-her favorite dish) to neighbors or even strangers, she was a jewel who will be truly missed by many.

On March 6, 1961, Mrs. Garrett was united in Holy Matrimony to Arnold Lee Garrett. To this union, three children were born. As a couple, Mrs. Garrett and her husband were known to encourage their children as well as other children in the Kymulga community. Their desire was for young people to further their education to improve their chances of succeeding in the working world.

On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, Mrs. Garrett transitioned from her temporary earthly home to her permanent heavenly residence with the LORD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Lee Garrett; parents, Eashmon Keith, Viola Keith, and Robert Easley; sister, Judith Keith; brothers, Robert Easley Jr. and Kenneth Easley; and stepdaughter, Essie Garrett Hall.

She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Kristi Garrett of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Patrick (Gail) Garrett of Huntsville, AL and Douglas (Patricia) Garrett of Atlanta, GA; three sisters, Faye (Jerry) Collins and Kathy Keith of Alpine, AL and Countess Easley of Oakland, CA; five brothers, Archie (Geraldine) Keith of Munford, AL, Dewayne (Gwendolyn) Keith of LaFayette, AL, Michael (Jannie) Keith of Alpine, AL, Bernard Keith of Atlanta, GA and Bruce Easley of El Cerrito, CA; one aunt, Margaret Williams of Alpine, AL; one uncle, Leonard (Marguerette) Cole, Sr. of Alpine, AL; three grandchildren, Eleanor (Kameon) Prather of North Hollywood, CA, Enez (Deivon) Palmer of Atlanta, GA and Zachary Garrett of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pat and family, our hearts go out too you at your family's time of grieving. Your mother was a beautiful soul as I got a chance to witness many years ago. The family love was evident and the admiration from those around her was too. Be comforted in knowing she is watching down from Heaven. She knew she was loved by all who knew and had a chance to meet her. If there is anything that my family can do for any of you, please do not hesitate to ask. We pray for God's strength today as we go through this part of our journey. Love you all. Curtis Haygood
