Obituary For Shelia Faye Shelton

Ms. Shelia Faye “Pumpkin” Shelton was born on August 15, 1972, to the late John L. Shelton Jr. and Clevie Lee Shelton Brewer in Talladega, Alabama.

At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined the Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. B.E. McKinney. She later moved her membership to New Hope Missionary Baptist church in Jacksonville, Alabama under the leadership of Rev. Roosevelt Parker, Sr.

Shelia received her early education in the Talladega City School System. After high school, she matriculated to Gadsden State Community College and then later to Jacksonville State University (JSU) in Jacksonville, Alabama. At JSU, she received her Bachelor of Social Work in the fall of 2001 and her Master of Science in Counselor Education was received in the fall of 2011.

Shelia used her gifts and talents to serve others through her employment at Diana’s Beauty and Fashion Supply in Talladega, Alabama and then Renaissance Manufacturing Group in Anniston, Alabama, Alabama Department of Human Resources, and Family Options. She later embarked on a career at MedMark Treatment Centers in Oxford, Alabama where she received numerous recognitions, awards, and gifts including the prestigious “Counselor of the Year” award in 2018. As “Counselor of the Year”, Sheila was recognized for all of her “hard work, dedication and passion for the people served and the addiction counseling profession.”

Shelia really enjoyed crocheting, knitting, making diaper cakes for expecting mothers, and helping her clients.

Shelia departed this life on the evening of Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Alabama. She leaves behind to cherish her memories: one loving son, John Shelton of Oxford, AL; mother, Clevie Lee Brewer of Talladega AL; one sister, Constance Garrett of Huntsville AL; two sisters/cousins, Patrice Williams (Jeremy) and Crystal Motley; a special aunt, Linda Shelton; two special uncles, Marshall Shelton and Howard Shelton; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at 1728 Louise Dr. SE, Jacksonville, AL 36265.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial gifts be made through the JSU Foundation for JSU Social Work students at www.jsu.edu/givejsu in her name.
