To Ethel( we went to Valley State together), son and the rest of the family, I pray God's blessings on you all in the face of your precious loss. I met Stephen in the 80's at MS State at the State Vocational Educators Conference. There were very few minorities there, so each year we bonded together and hung together those 3 days. Stephen was intelligent, always so upbeat, so positive, just a down right good guy, so friendly and engaging with all. We remained friends down through the years and this is the loss of a great friend, feels like family. RIP my friend. Family, look to God for help, only God and time will ease the hurt and sorrow. Hold to His unchanging hand, He'll walk alongside you and see you through. God bless each of you. Josie Gilchrist Anderson

We, (my wife Toni and I) offer our condolences to the family of my cousin Steve in this time of loss. We thank the Lord for the nearly 76 years He gave him to us. He is an inspiration to all who knew him and knew of him. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of him teaching me farm life. When I came from Chicago to visit their farm in Lexington, he taught me everything including picking cotton, slaughtering hogs, and riding "Ol' Dan", their horse. As a kid, he exemplified the benefits of hard work and he carried on this discipline throughout his life as an educator, a family man, and a man of God. Thank the Lord, he is with Him now. Ron Montgomery, 1st cousin Garland, TX

I am really going to miss Uncle Steve. When I visited MS, during several summers, as a child, I remember Uncle Steve always paying attention to me and he noticed that I was often serious. Uncle Steve liked to ask me questions to see how I would respond. He would say, "Deborah, why are you so serious?" I have thought about that over the years. He was often a serious guy himself, but loved to laugh and have a good time and had a compassionate heart. He was sensitive. During my adulthood, Uncle Steve visited me at my home, in California, and spent one Christmas with us when my sons (Kyle and Ryan) were boys. He took a special notice to Ryan's behavior and began calling him, "his leader." Uncle Steve and I laughed about that the last time we talked. Uncle Steve came to my wedding, when I re-married in 2017, and he was the "life of the party." My friends are still talking about Uncle Steve. He was not afraid to get on the dance floor with the young folks. I am thankful for Uncle Steve's love and care for me and for all of the heart-pouring honest communications we had during my adulthood. In 2020, my husband, Wayne and I went to Gulfport, MS, to see Uncle Steve and Uncle George, who was in a convalescent home. Uncle Steve thanked us for coming to support the family. I told him that I loved him and he told me that he loved me. As we left Gulfport on that very stormy rainy Wednesday afternoon, I had no idea that would be my last time seeing either of my uncles in this earthly realm. Uncle Steve, rest in peace.

Mr. Bailey was my Shop teacher in the early 70's. He was the best. Such a kind caring teacher. For some reason, I thought about him last week. Rest in peace my favorite teacher. Earnestine Washington, Colorado

We remember the many times Steve would drive our Aunt Ethel and our mother around to shop, the times they drove us back to school at Mississippi state and allowed us to spend time with them in their home. Uncle Steve and Aunt Ethel allowed God to use them to show us children that there was a better life available to us if we got an education. πŸ₯° God, we thank for Steve's life. May he rest in peace πŸ™πŸ½ With love, The Children of Edward & Viola Webber
